How can I store my digital photos?
My photos are all on my laptop and computer, I want to keep them for years, not just when my laptop/computer die. How can I store them to keep them e.g. in physical form maybe like a CD?

I'm completely useless with technology haha .

Optical media are a bad idea - there's concerns about their longevity; they're susceptible to chemical decay if they're not kept properly. My recommendation is to have multiple backups. My recommendation would be to store the images on two separate cloud services, as well as on physical media in your possession.

You can pick up 64GB flash drives for less than £30 from places like Play, that will hold a few thousand. Buy one of those for physical backup then put another copy into Cloud storage and another (If you're extra concerned) into a hosting site like Photobucket.

Ok what's a cloud service? Is it like Carbonite, my mum has that for every computer in my house I think.

Ah I do want a physical storage as well so I may get a flash drive, not quite sure what they are haha.

    Thanks everyone!

Carbonite is cloud backup rather than cloud storage if I remember correctly. Take a look at Dropbox, which is free.

I keep mine on an external hard drive, but you could use a flash drive, cloud service etc

Ah I am such a novice with technology.
Ok a memory stick sounds simple enough, and I'll look at dropbox. Cheers.

Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive etc. Even services like Picasa, Flickr and Photobucket can be considered cloud services, and are specifically designed for photos.

If you are already using Carbonite to back up your computer's hard drive to the cloud, there is little need to look into other cloud services like Dropbox, SkyDrive, etc. Unless you want to be really secure and have them backed up to two services.

    I'd call it prudent.
