Car parking at Oxford
I will be starting an MSc this October (at Teddy Hall) but I currently have a car, having worked for two years after my BSc. As I do not have a permenent home in the UK and am reluctant to sell the car just for a year I need to bring it with me to Oxford.
Having visited Oxford twice recently I used the Oxford Park and Ride car parks (like Peartree) and they are great for long term parking. My questions are:
- How safe it is for the car if I park in a park and ride for the whole year, visiting it only once every two to three weeks? Is vandalism a problem?
- At Peartree it is £30.90 for 28 days, so it is very affordable. But I wonder if there are other cheaper places for long term parking in Oxford?

At £30.90 I would say that the security of the car (say free from vandalism) is the main consideration.
Thanks -

Probably the easiest way to assess this would be to contact a car insurance company and tell them what you plan to do and see what premium they would want to charge - you'd have to do that anyway and the price will automatically tell you (if they're getting their sums right) how risky their data tell you this is. -
Re: Car parking at OxfordI'll be at Norham Gardens. I think I'll just check with Teddy Hall.(Original post by Little Jules)
You should contact Teddy Hall and ask if they have any parking. Some colleges do, particularly for grads. I actually kept my car in Oxford for both years of my MPhil. Do you know where you will be living? The alternative is to park in Cowley, where you don't need a permit. -
Re: Car parking at OxfordOK how about I ask this - besides parking at the Park and Ride, where do you recommend a MSc student like me to park the car, provided that I only need to use it once every two weeks to a month.(Original post by astro67)
