Parents and University
Well i'm currently at the end of school, with just 2 more exams left, and i'm expecting all C'S maybe a B and maybe a D in my exams and i'll be doing a btec in public services at college. (English C, Maths C - hopefully)
my main problem is that i wanted to go in the army after college, but recently i decided not too, as i wanted to gain a degree in criminology or law. I told my mum, whilst at my Grandma and grandad's house, and basically it was asif they didn't believe i could get in to university or for that matter the course i wanted to do, which made me have a bit of a break down in my room, because it wasn't the response i was hoping for.
What i want to know is, do you think based on my predictions of my GCSE grades, i could get in to university studying Law or Criminology? i'm also going to be working hard to get Distinctions in Btec too. -
Re: Parents and University
Honestly? No. GCSE's dont mean s*** at Uni. You need at least an BBB or something like that at A level to do Law and even better if you want to do it at a good uni.
BTEC's are also not what they are cranked up to be and are worth like a couple of GCSE C's.
Aim high and work hard at College/Sixth Form and you can do it though! -
Re: Parents and UniversityLol a BTEC is equivalent to an A-Level and will get you into uni..(Original post by MacCuishy)

E- Pass
B- Merit
A- Distinction
Just some uni's prefer A-levels. -
Re: Parents and UniversityIt depends what level you are doing. HE is doing his GCSE's so that means it is only like a level 2 or something.(Original post by laurentommo)

If you want to do criminogy you actually don't need very high grades you can get away with getting CCB though it wont be at a good uni

Re: Parents and UniversityBull****. A Law degree is reasonably well-respected if from a decent uni. As for Criminology, some jobs just like you to have 'a degree'.(Original post by Sternumator)
Even if you could get into uni the course won't be of any use. -
Re: Parents and UniversityCapitalised*(Original post by Soph(:)
You may want to assess your own mistakes before you go around correcting others! I think you'll find *won't wouldn't be capitalized in the middle of a sentence.
It was only capitalised because it was the start of my sentence; your argument is redundant. -
Re: Parents and UniversityIt isn't going to be from a decent uni though, that is my point.(Original post by TheDefiniteArticle)

Re: Parents and UniversityMate, you have to much time on your hands! You pathetic individual, and no if you were that "correct" you would have noted that fact in brackets.(Original post by Inverse)

Re: Parents and UniversityBefore 'advising' someone, why don't you check up the universities first. I did a BTEC National Diploma in Applied Sciences, and I'm currently studying Law at Surrey. It isn't the best uni for law, but it is a good uni. BTECs have many different levels, but as he is going to be doing it at college, he'll most likely be doing a National Diploma, which is equivalent to three A levels.(Original post by MacCuishy)

Re: Parents and University
Don't listen to the people on here saying that GCSEs are not important because they are, maybe not as important as the Alevel grades, but try your utter best. As for your BTEC, if I were you I'd take Alevels in sociology (good for criminology and quite easy), then two other essay based subjects, it doesn't really matter which tbh, and if you want to read law, you don't need to do it at Alevel so don't feel pressured to take it. Get work experience, Universities love it

Re: Parents and UniversityDid you see what I put later? This guy is doing a level 2 I think. He needs a L3 or L4 to be A level equivalent I think(Original post by zaliack)
