    Piercings whilst doing sports?
    (Original post by Quita)
For all those people interested in body modifications, from piercings to tattoos and scarification.
Hey I am new to the piercing phenomenon...and was wondering does anyone on TSR do any sports especially semi contact ones such as martial arts. I really want some new piercings (I am going to get my ear lobes repierced) and was wondering what piercings you all would suggest. I am open to any suggestions but cant have any on my face Thanks guys!

Not quite an answer, however on Embarrassing Bodies Live the other day a dude had a prince Albert that got ripped out during rugby. Pees in 3 different directions now. So whatever you choose, do it carefully.

So another person was tugging on his penis in Rugby? Not surprising.

I would say to probably avoid any ones on the helix as these really can take a long time to heal and can hurt like a bitch when knocked for ages. To be honest, probably best to think about which ones you can cover/heal quickly and can then be removed for sport.

Well lobes heal quickly so you can get a few in there. Then my nose healed up pretty quickly but it'd probably close up if I left it out for any length of time. I don't know how into your sport you are so I can't really judge just how much your ears could get hit/grabbed/tangled in hair.

Yeah but that's like saying "I ski", still doesn't tell me just how much you get hit and where also doesn't say if it's a weekly thing or a daily thing or what

Rooks are cool, plus you can kinda tuck the jewellery away which could be handy in sports.

I've got my helix, tragus, conch, rook and vertical tragus pierced and also do martial arts. I've never had a problem with them

I was a gymnast and had my belly button pierced, kept catching it and eventually took it out - the sport meant so much more than the piercing. Not a contact sport as such, but I was spinning around on bars and vaulting so one fall and it'd probably be ripped out.
I'd just stick to ear piercings. They heal much faster than other piercings so you can take them out when doing sport, and there are loads of earrings and designs you can choose from. I'm a dancer now and got my ears pierced twice and there hasn't been any problems - not a contact sport though haha.

I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 15 because of the sports I was involved in. I've seen cheerleaders put clear fishing line through piercings and knot it to keep holes like belly buttons open but to stay within rules on jewellery. Worth the hassle?

ETA: Cheerleading I was doing involved a lot of contact through the stunting and pyramid sections of routines, one wrong move and your earrings are out. I'd stick with stuff you can remove and leave out to train and compete.
