Will the 80's days ever come about again?
Does anyone wish that the City would return to the days of the 80's? When Equities exploded and millionares were born over night. Many were able to to retire in their early 30's and lived it up in their 20's.

We are the future of the City and beleive it or not but we can dictate the markets and the economy, lets bloody go for it and bring the City back! Screw the politicians and general public lets make it happen!!!

    Pipedream...

Our parents' generation ****ed us over in that regard. This was not sustainable and really shouldnt have happened. Anyone wishing those days back, is extremely selfish.

Selfish to who exactly? I think you will find it was the Labour Govt that screwed over this country, not the City of London.

Selfish to the people. You completely misunderstood what I said.

Non-sustainable gains are not good for anyone. This is what happened. Who was responsible for this doesnt matter. I do agree that politics is the root of evil, but that has nothing to do with your completely wrong statement.

I think £40-45k base + £10-15k bonus is more than modest for a banker in his 20s.

If this is serious, I would question your moral judgement.

May I remind you that not too long ago back in 2008, bankers collectively crashed the banking system which led to 100's of billions of taxpayer's money being pledged to keep private banks standing. Not content with their multi-billion pound bailouts, bankers went on to freeze lending to consumers and businesses which has resulted in depressed demand and thus a deep global recession. Faced with falling revenues and increased welfare spending, sovereign debt is soaring across the world and bankers are again waiting to pounce.

Don't ever forget that you are only ticking along because of printed funny money (QE) and it's the next generation who will have to deal with that.....

    Screw you.

How did you work this out? The only mistake Labour made was bailing you out in 2008.

Are you actually serious? You can't be serious, probably one of the most hilarious things I have read.

Stop being such a loser, if you have that mentality then you will just stick around at that level.

You're trying to hard at playing wannabee banker. Really.

What age are you, anyway? You definitely come across as school age, if I can be so bold as to risk offending your cohort with my wild generalisation.

If depositer's money was was safeguarded using QE money, we could have let the entire system crash and start anew. There would have been more pain in the short term, but chances are we wouldn't still be in recession 4 years on with no prospect of growth for another few years.

Unfortunately, there was no chance of that happening as politicians (Gordon Brown) care far more about re-election prospects than actually doing what's good for the country.

Anyway, you probably don't get what I am saying at all, someone who is so mired in greed and ignorance will not stop for a second to think about the man on the street who is suffering for your mistakes.

Because of course, you know far more about how our economy works than the economists who say it was the right thing to do.

Actually there is much disagreement. QE is devastating, people just don't realise it yet.

Yes, the 80s was awesome, but sadly things will never be like that again, for a long long time anyway.

Probably. Not sure if it'll be the span of your career though. It was just about 'alive' up until 2007.

She seems to be one of the few people who grasps the idea that working in finance isn't just a job.

It used to have a very strong culture and lifestyle effect on the people in it. That's faded substantially. I don't see it coming back in the same scale and I wouldn't expect it for over a decade (which is longer than most careers in finance).
