Anti-Jubilee Demonstration attacked by EDL
100 members of the English Defence League attacked and injured republicans during an anti-Jubilee demonstration in Newcastle today. The EDL thugs tore down the banners of the republicans and threw firecrackers and fireworks at them forcing them to call off their "Stuff the Jubilee" protest. One British republican was set alight by a firework and taken to hospital to be treated for burns. The EDL fascists gave nazi salutes while singing God Save The Queen.

Utterly vile and anti-democratic action by people who mask their racism and bigotry in a cloud of faux-concern for "British values" and support for English nationalism. Scum. -
Re: Anti-Jubilee Demonstration attacked by EDL
Not that I condone attacks on protesters but it's very insensitive to be all anti-Royalist on just one day, which they could've spent playing Skyrim or watching Carry On Don't Lose Your Head. I wouldn't spend a sacred day protesting national culture. What's funny is that they think it's suppression when really they're just a bunch of irritating, oiks; Little Republicans you could say.
To anyone protesting: deal with your disagreements with Royalty in a mature and sensible way, such as national debates and opinion poll. Why should you be allowed to be intolerant?
Also, there's nothing wrong with England Nationalism bar football hooligans who think the St George Cross is a banner for drunk, post-match parties, which is because we're trained to be British here in England.Last edited by Snagprophet; 05-06-2012 at 21:53. -
Calling today 'sacred' is a bit much; it's not Easter or something.(Original post by Snagprophet)

And to you claiming that Protestors shouldn't be allowed to protest or something is utterly ridiculous. Why should anti-Monarchists be sidelined? Is the Queen more important than a right to protests? Maybe we shouldn't allow any protests against wars or oppression!
And the statement 'Why should you be allowed to be intolerant?' is the most poorly thought through statement I've ever read. Why is it intolerant to make their views known? The only intolerant people are those who don't want the anti-Monarchists to air their thoughts, which apparently includes YOU. -

The people who love to sneer at Kim Jong, Gaddafi, parades in general, and government provided entertainment, have just had a silly organised parade for an old lady and her relatives to distract themselves from the miserable reality that Britain has become.
What better time is it to protest than when the jubilee is being staged and it is being rammed down my throat whenever I watch the news or even walk into a damn supermarket?Last edited by Organ; 05-06-2012 at 22:22. -
Re: Anti-Jubilee Demonstration attacked by EDL
Not defending the action, it was rather stupid. But I take issue with the article.
Firstly 'Nazi salutes', and we have a single second of a single man making a gesture that could be a Nazi salute, but which turns into a pointed finger fractions of a second later, and the National Anthem was not being sung at the time.
And the 'clash' we see on the film looks pretty mutual.
However, I'll say again so there's no confusion, I think it was a stupid and needless action by the EDL members. -
Re: Anti-Jubilee Demonstration attacked by EDL
I dunno. If i was uaf the 1st thing id do is send people to edl events to do nazi salutes.
I remember when the queen mother died i was talking to this guy of foreign descent and he went "its all a bunch of **** really isnt it". Im sorry but that really riled me. Im somewhat on the fence on the monarchy. I think they do a good job as heads of culture but find some of their attitudes annoying. I said to the guy that it wasnt the time to express that view. I felt like expressing the same view about his religious culture to see how he liked it. -

Oh well yours has more posts. -
Re: Anti-Jubilee Demonstration attacked by EDLNow where did I say that all protests should be banned forthwith?(Original post by chapman.)
And to you claiming that Protestors shouldn't be allowed to protest or something is utterly ridiculous.
Again, you have sidelined my own opinion, assigned your own opinion for me and then criticised it as if it came out of my own mouth. Learn to read my posts when I say that today royalists should've been left to celebrate the monarch they (the majority) are proud to have as their head of state. How about I just follow people round while they're celebrating something and then taint their celebrations?(Original post by chapman.)

Why does protesting today make any difference? They can be respectful and wait until it's over before they start shoving their minority opinion where it isn't wanted. -
Re: Anti-Jubilee Demonstration attacked by EDLWhy can foreigners not voice their opinion about the monarchy? Again this utterly bizzare personality cult around the Royals is something that I will never understand about this country. To be honest, I didn't see anything on the television, hear anything on the radio, or see much in the press that diverged from coordinated gushing worthy of Pyongyang.(Original post by green.tea)

Honestly, these last few days have made me consider cashing in on my Irish passport and leaving this country. I don't understand my fellow "subjects". -

And why should the anti-Monarchists not be allowed to protest today? Or any other day? To them this day is just a way of maximising impact. Which you do not seem to understand, you; your words, intolerant halfwit.
I won't even justify that last paragraph with words.
To everyone else, 'Snagprophet' should probably be ignored, you can read his, quite frankly, retarded comments. Maybe he's a troll, maybe he's thick, I don't know. -
Re: Anti-Jubilee Demonstration attacked by EDLIt would perhaps be easier to stomach from people who didnt demand such a high level of respect for people their culture holds in esteem and people who didnt find funerals to be a good time to make such a point.(Original post by Organ)

Re: Anti-Jubilee Demonstration attacked by EDL
Given the universal media coverage and obsession with the monarchy this weekend, I feel like I've been living in a benevolent dictatorship with a submissive propaganda machine constantly peddling praise and devotion for it. These EDL cretins are the foot soldiers; the bludgeon.

Re: Anti-Jubilee Demonstration attacked by EDLSo by your logic, you believe it is completely fair for people to shout "British Soldiers burn in Hell" during the silence on 11th November, and so on?(Original post by chapman.)
