    VAG
VAG is dead - but Skodas are still not desirable. Actually I would never buy a car
    from the Volkswagen group.

Ever since they released the MK1 Fabia vRS I've been interested in them. That car completely changed my view on them, or rather brought the Skoda brand to light.

My dad has a Fabia vRS which was owned by my uncle before from new and did 25k miles in one year (company car) and it never missed a beat, even with my uncles flamboyant driving style. I'm in the process of getting the last few savings together to buy it off my dad now it's on a still relatively fresh 78k miles. It's almost 10 years old but still puts a smile on your face when you put your foot down (remapped). Christ, it makes me feel old thinking it's been 10 years since we pulled out of the dealership in that car

If I wasn't so focused on fuel economy (i do quite a few miles to and from work) I'd get a MK1 Octavia RS.

The 1.9 Fabia vRS is a great car to drive - I learnt in one! It's a great feeling to be able to put your foot down and get to 30 almost instantly, feeling pushed back in your seat. I remember my instructor saying "yes, don't be afraid to get up to your speed quickly!" when I did it for the first time  It's a shame I'm down to a 1.2 now I've passed

The whole idea of Skodas being cheaper than the equivalent VW isn't 100% true. I was looking for an Octavia TDi and found that a Jetta TDi with fewer miles was about a grand cheaper than the lowest mileage Octavia I could find. I appreciate the Octavia is a hatchback and the Jetta's a saloon but is the hatchback worth a grand more? I didn't think so so went with the Jetta, but would have taken an Octavia in a heartbeat!
