Any chance I can transfer from an ex-poly?
Thoughts? I have read that it is very rare, but I attended Winchester house and was on Oxbridge track...but had some family problems which resulted in my current uni.

You can't transfer, I'm afraid. You can apply this October, sit your LNAT, perhaps be interviewed in December and then prepare to start your first year in October 2013 though

Not cambridge. A grand total of 10 seconds of googling supplied me with this:

"Q. Can I transfer to Cambridge from another university?
    A. It is not possible for a student to transfer to Cambridge to pursue only part of a degree course. All students must start in the first year of our three or four-year undergraduate programmes.

We do have a system of admitting graduates from other universities to do a second undergraduate degree as an affiliated student at Cambridge, in which case the course takes two years instead of the usual three. More information about applying as an affiliated student is available in the affiliated students section."

    Nor oxford:

"Can I apply to Oxford as a transfer student?
No, students cannot transfer to Oxford to complete a course begun elsewhere. Graduates of other universities who wish to undertake a Second undergraduate degree at Oxford may be given Senior Status, which would mean that they could start at the second year of the course. Oxford also has a Visiting Student programme."

Tbh, you are going to lose two years by applying to start at Oxbridge now and by the time you are finished with your first year you could have finished your undergrad where you are now so I would stay. OR you could try and transfer to a more reputable university and, again, finish your degree in the next 2 years. I talked with liverpool university, for instance, about a possible transfer for me and they would've required me to get a 2.1. So if you are on route to a 2.1 and really want to go to a more reputable university, this would be the route that is probably best.

QMUL and Lancaster (both in the top 20) will accept transfers in some circumstances, KCL and Newcastle (both also in the top 20) will not accept transfers. It is a mixed bag as far as I can tell, but it looks like you'd certainly be able to get into some good universities, even if they aren't oxbridge.
