Re: The Art of Networking."Networking" (also known as brown-nosing, schmoozing and many other terms) is when you talk to someone who can help you and persuade them to take positive action to help you.(Original post by flyingkolours)
hey all...i've heard many people say that if you network like hell you'll get offers from IBs! What exactly is Networking? How do people do it? I'll be in London for around a year doing a masters programme and I definitely want to network. But how??
For example, persuading the HR of a bank that they should make sure to interview you.
In London at the top unis, you will get several (by which, I mean around 60 in the space of about 6 weeks from the very start of October to mid-November*) obvious opportunities. These will be events from the IBs on your campus or at their office. Alternatively, go out somewhere nice and you never know who you might meet. They don't always work, work, work...

hey thanks for the reply!! You mean to say that that students generally go to them, say hi and then start off about how to perfectly meet their requirements, and why they think so highly of their bank? or do students take their contact numbers and call them frequently to enquire how they're doing and whether there's any event/meet that they should attend?

Re: The Art of Networking.
Depends on the event. Some are very structured. Some are not.
How you network depends on you, them... and millions of other things. There are lots of theories on the web to read about. Frankly, I wouldn't bother. Just be yourself and if someone likes you, cool. If not, provided they don't remember you for the wrong reasons, no harm done. The events are there for more than just networking.
Once you get there, you'll work it out/be able to since things probably vary slightly between the universities.
