Sociology discussion, revision, exam and homework help.

For my 12 mark question I usually do 4 paragraph intro then your point and then a however and conclude I only do this because it's quicker since I'm such a slow writer.
For the exam I revise over keywords and what they mean because that is very important.
Good luck 😃

Re: GCSE AQA Sociology Unit 2 27/06/2012
Last year, for the Unit 1, I did some questions in the very few past papers and quite a few of them actually came up in the real exam so I would suggest looking over past papers if you can.
Otherwise, I'm just trying to learn key words though it's an absolute nightmare. :/
I do an intro but a very brief one, then if I have time, do 2 points for one side and one for the other with a conclusion at the end. Even if you only do 1 point for each side, you're pretty much guaranteed 6-7 marks anyway because you did both sides.(Original post by A193)
So do any of you guys have any tips for this exam??????????????????????
How are you lot gonna set out your 12 mark questions?

Re: GCSE AQA Sociology Unit 2 27/06/2012An Introduction which consists of a small definition of the topic of the question ie crime. Then 2-3 reasons that agree with the statement and 2-3 reasons that disagree with the statement. Finish with a brief conclusion summarising your point of view.(Original post by A193)

There are obviously different ways of answering 12marks and it ultimately comes to the way you've been taught. Good luck everyone anyway, let's hope the 12marks aren't too difficult :XXX -
Re: GCSE AQA Sociology Unit 2 27/06/2012
This was my last exam as well. I found Crime and Deviance questions ok. I found Social Inequality questions very difficult. I didn't know what glass ceiling ment??
What 12 Mark questions did you choose for social inequality?
I chose the classless society one.
Did anyone choose to answer the power questions. -
Re: GCSE AQA Sociology Unit 2 27/06/2012
I found the Social inequality questions the most difficult. The 4 mark one about defining power ceiling, as it wasn't in my textbook - and the 5 mark question after that (can't remember what it was).
I chose the 12 mark question for "Discuss how far sociologists agree that ethnicity is the biggest factor in determining a persons' life chances"
- definition of life chance - the positive outcomes a person has with regards to their education, healthcare, employmenet, etc and I listed all the social factors which affect life chance - gender, ethnicity, social class
- how ethnicity affects life chances
-how gender affecst life chances (feminist argument about the patriarchial society, women being under represented as MPs)
-how social class affects life chance (wealth and income determines education and makes it more likely to secure a well paid job etc)
-conclusion that social class may be the biggest factor instead of ethnicity -
Re: GCSE AQA Sociology Unit 2 27/06/2012Yes for the 12 mark one I think it was "Discuss how far sociologists agree that balance of power is evenly distributed between men and women",, I wrote(Original post by rozzy22)
Did anyone choose to answer the power questions.
-In a representative democracy like the UK, the people elected to Parliament are the ones who can influence government policy (they hold the power) and they need to be a good representation of the populace
-studies show that men are more likely to be elected as MPs than women despite the numbers of men in society being equal to women, Only 20% of the MPs in house of commons are women, despite women making 50% of British society which is not good for a representative democracy
- therefore women are under-represented which may mean that their issues are not brought up and tackled, (although male MPs may still bring up women's issues) so they hold less power overall -
Re: GCSE AQA Sociology Unit 2 27/06/2012I did that essay question too and wrote similar things.(Original post by naiadania)

It wasn't my best though, I spent too much time on Crime & Deviance.
My friend actually went and answered all four topics! How she did so in the time I have no idea. Does anyone know or can guess what might happen to her paper? -
