    iPhone 4s 32gb negotiating help!
I'm due to be in my upgrade period from tomorrow.

I'm currently on a 12 month contract with Vodafone. Samsung Galaxy s2, £41pm

I want to upgrade to an iPhone 4s 32gb (free phone), 18 month contract max.

Most compare websites have £51pm as the cheapest option.

I want to know if I threaten to leave Vodafone can I get it cheaper? Is anyone on a similar tariff or can anyone offer me some negotiating advice.

    I'd be very grateful.

    Thanks in advance

It's certainly worth a try. The best way to approach it is to request your PAC code and ideally, find a better deal than what they offer to quote at them. I've found in the past that requesting the PAC prompts a call a day or two later to try to convince you not to leave.

From when I worked in Vodafone last August: iPhone prices are not set by the Network, they are set by Apple so the ability of the network provider to negotiate the price on iPhone's is very much reduced, if not non-existent.

I remember asking Phones 4 U if they could buyout my contract and put me on an iPhone one, and their response was that Apple don't want their phones to appear "cheap". I know it isn't quite the same, but with vodafone (or any other network) you can probably get any phone tarrif reduced by threatening to leave, but definitely not the iPhone.

From my experience - Vodafone offer substantially worse discounts for leaving customers nowadays. For an iPhone - they probably won't drop it whatsoever. The iPhone prices are very rigidly kept in place by Apple - as they want to keep their 'premium' label (as well as make a lot of money, obviously).

    Also, Samsung Galaxy S2 --> iPhone 4S - Nice 'upgrade' (I kid)

So you suggest I should leave and get a better offer elsewhere? Also is the iPhone not as good as the Samsung?

I'm suggesting that you won't get a better offer than what is standard on the websites from any company if you're buying an iPhone.

Well personally I think the Samsung is better but that's personal preference - they stack up well from each other (most unbiased thing I could say is that they're pretty equal OVERALL). It's not really 'up'-grading but rather just moving to the side

Threatening to take your custom elsewhere can help. Customer retention usually call back in a few days.

They want a sale and the advisor wants to make commission.

The other day , I went into the shop and enquired about the Nokia Lumia ..... I said I'd have to come back later on and the salesman at Phones4U was literally gagging for me to stay and let him run a credit check that he was offering me cashback and a free gift right there and then!!!!!

Shows you the length they would go to in order to gain a sale.

Prices CAN change and threatening to leave is a good idea, it normally works for most people.
