William Morris + Falk-Egg were gone at 9:03 so just went for the preference system, but in hindsight wish I'd just picked Harry French :/

Exactly the same as me! Was looking for self catered with ensuite but logged on at 9 and top choices weren't there. Have been told though that Harry French is a good option as close to SU and town as well as main lecture theatres so can't be too bad! I'm doing Retail and Marketing
Exactly the same happened to me too! I also heard there are a lot of art students that live there, I'm doing textiles but I do want to live with a range of people, not just art girls !

I'm in....Village Court? I wanted Telford but ended up here, there's so little information about it can anyone give me any info? Anyone else in VC?

"Falk-Egg on tour" apparently...I'm baffled but it seems to be a hall that's just this year while falk-egg is being redone?

At least it's mega cheap so I don't have to save more over summer than I would've had to have done for Telford!

Instead of reserving a room that is available on a first-come-first-serve basis, you tell the website what location/what kind of room you're looking for, and they assign one to you. From what I hear on this forum.

It sounds like a cruddy system, and even the letter advises us to reserve, so I'm staying away :P

Hey, I'm currently a first year and I know a few people at Harry French and tbh, it's actually pretty nice. It's a decent price too because the location isn't amazing, so the only issue is that if you're doing something that requires you to be down by the West side (like Engineering, Physics or Maths), it's a long walk, so that's not too fun. Having said that, they're testing out a system of free on-campus buses this term, so if that continues next year, you could always use them on horrible weather days and such. So yeah, the worst thing is the distance.

Other than that, it's actually a pretty nice hall. They tend to be quite social and while the location to lectures isn't too nice, you'll be closer to town and therefore it's pretty handy being 5mins from Sainsburys and all. Also you're in the middle of the SU and town, so it's pretty good for nightlife, unlike say DC where you have to trek ages to even get to the SU.

Don't worry about it - whichever hall you end up in, it will be generally the same. The only big difference between halls is catered or non-catered as with non-catered, you see people a bit less, so it can be harder to socialise, but there are enough events throughout freshers and all to sort that out
This is what I was told about HF because I am also going to be living there and it wasn't my first choice!

You haven't missed out, they split the rooms available between the three days so that you've still got the same chance of getting what you want as the people who applied on the first two days

I wanted Billmo but it was gone so went for Harry French. My sister was there 2 years ago and had a fantastic time. Very social halls. She was doing the art foundation and of the 8 people sharing only 1 other was doing art so a good mix.
