    Help :S gcses
Hi, I am sixteen years old and I am finishing year eleven and my gcses this summer. Is it true that the exams I do in summer I can't retake? Because Im worried about my results, so if I get low grades will I not be able to retake summer exams?

I believe you can retake, but unless you've failed *abysmally* you're not going to want to. A-levels will take over very quickly and you won't have time for it. Better AS grades will make up for a poor day at GCSE.

hey i guess if you've failed very bad you can resit in college but as far as im concerned it wont be good because it will be a waste of a year resitting your gcses in college also im not sure but i think its not all the subjects that you are able to resist i guess it will be english at first and other which are important to lead you on to your chosen a level. i would advice you not to waste a year resitting.

You can re-sit or 'retake' as you call it but I wouldn't if I were you. Just concentrate on doing the very best you can now. In year 12, your focus will be on AS llevels as sometimes the transition to A levels can be quite challenging! Besides Uni's don't particulary make you offers based on GCSE's...A levels are more important. Hope that helps!

So I could retake certain exams, not the whole course?

Those are the only ones I would want to take certain exams

    Hiya!
Bearing in mind this may be different for different schools and exam boards, I've been told that there are no History resits. I know that- for OCR at least- you'd have to start the entire course again (including coursework.)
I've also been given the impression this applies to all the other GCSE exams taken during the summer- so if you wanted to "resit" your English exams you would actually have to start everything again from scratch.

Hence why it wouldn't be such a good idea to try and "redo" anything alongside your A Levels. I wouldn't worry though. Focus on getting better grades in your AS and A2 exams- if you have a set of stunning A Levels, people won't pay so much attention to a few shoddy GCSEs.

Try not to worry! You've probably done a lot better than you think. Just pray for low grade boundaries... I know I am.

You really won't want to bother, if you are doing a subject at A-level then that grade will be much more important than your GCSE grade, if not just forget about it universities really don't care that much as long as you don't completely fail. All I would suggest is find out how close your mark is to the boundary if you thought you should have done better. If it is close to a higher boundary, ie you got an C but only 1 mark off an B, they you could get it remarked. i did this for geography and it went up from an A to an A*, so occasionally it pays off. Also there is a surprising amount of stuff that fits into September to January and by January you will have no motivation AT ALL to go back to GCSEs.

I think that you can retake. Its the year below that cannot. If you do really bad, you can retake at college Thats what I'm planning to do if i fail miserably!

Unis don't care about your GCSEs if you have good A-Levels; they will not discriminate against you as they know different individuals develop at their own pace.

That's a bit of an exaggeration, but I suppose it's best to put your GCSEs behind you once they're done and do the best you can at AS.
