I had anorexia and had no periods for a year...I don't think it has affected my fertility as I'm now healthy and have had periods since becoming a healthy weight, but...how do I know? Can I get tested for fertility somehow? :/

Wow congrats on recovering, really well done!
Go to your GP. They can arrange fertility tests.

    Yes, of course, that's fine.
Not eating as much as I should have which led to malnutrition and caused a lot of fertility related issues, basically.
-___- I think I kind of do this, to an extent

Re: Any girls on here infertile? What are the reasons?
I have PCOS which is the leading cause of female infertility, I have no idea if I can or can't have children, I get my periods a maximum of 3 times a year, sometimes only once!

I guess it's something I'll have to discuss with my doctor when I start trying for children - I'd love to have my own kids. When I was first diagnosed it was very upsetting to find out I might not be able to have children. It's sort of sunk in now though, and I try my hardest to keep it out of my mind and concentrate on keeping my weight at a healthy level (the larger you are with pcos, the worse the symptoms tend to get).

Wow guys, what considerate answers  I'm assuming the OP is/might be infertile..?
Anyway, my period stopped for quite a long time. It was related to my eating habits and the doctor told me that would lead to infertility, if it hadn't already.
The prospect of infertility was terrifying but I went for testing and it turned out that I am fertile, I just need to be careful about my eating habits. I don't know what to say in relation to your situation as I'm unsure if you're asking this because you're infertile or..?
I also may be infertile due to years of on-and-of amenorrhea through anorexia. How did you go about getting your fertility tested?

I also have pcos and I'm not sure whether it can make you infertile but I do know that it can make it difficult to have children and so you have to try quite a bit and its better if you start trying kinda earlier on ( like mid 20s+)
It's best to talk to your doctor though
But saying that, my mum has pcos and the doctor told her that she wouldn't be able to have children and she was down about it for ages but then surprise surprise I came along and she always says that I was the best thing that happened to her!

I don't think I'm infertile because I have fairly regular periods now, but when I was suffering badly with anorexia my periods stopped for a while and my dietician told me I could've made myself infertile.

I am not inferitle but I cannot have children as I have had surgery to correct scoliosis (curvqture of the spine). It involves inserting a metal rod up my spine, i cant have an epidural, give birth naturally and carrying the baby will make my spine curve back to the way it used to be where it was crusing into my lungs, plus my muscles are too weak to push it out. But i've always said i never wanted my own chidren, so I'm happy with that, I may decide to adopt though, it doesnt matter that they are not releated genetically, infact that is better seeing as I have got bad genes passed on fom a horrible mother!
Sorry to bump this thread but I also have scoliosis and have had the op to correct it 4 years ago (mine was a pretty hefty curve as well) and I was told that I could have children and epidurals would also be fine. Are you sure thats right or do you think that's just specific to you?

I have something called PCOS and it can make it really difficult for you to have children, hoping so much im not completely infertile and that fertility treatment will help. I would be absolutely devastated if i couldnt have children.

Luckily my partner is really understanding and even though he would love to have his own children, if we couldnt he says he wouldnt leave me and that we would try to adopt.
There are many men (and women) who are understanding, supportive and dont see it as a barrier to a relationship.

I'm not infertile as such, but I was told in February that my chances of carrying a healthy child with a little risk to me or the child is virtually zero- I have a fairly severe form of Ehlers Danlos, a collagen condition that causes my ligaments to tear easily. My chances of miscarriage are 30-40% and my chances of damaging my pelvis ligaments is pretty much 100%..this will most likely be a dislocation of one or both hips leaving long term damage and tbh will be horribly painful. As well as that, local anaesthetics are near enough completely ineffective with me so I can't have epidurals and my ligaments become incredibly loose under general anaesthetic (I have worn a neck and spinal brace for previous operations just to keep everything in place) so caesarians are messy too, not I mention problems with the wound healing afterwards. And also, a type of my condition leads to a fatal heart condition and there's a 25% chance my child could have that apparently..it's not a good situation overall

In honesty, it haunts me. It's motivated me enough to get genetic counselling and work really hard on my fitness to strengthen my ligaments. I don't want kids yet (I'm 17) by I really do I'm the future and would still go through all of this in order to try and have them. I've never discussed it with anyone but my boyfriend and my best friend and they were both really supportive. I worry about it even though there's nothing I can do but hey, that's life and people are worse off than you.

My partner has PCOS and we've just had a little girl, so it's possible, just took time with us. We conceived without any sort of fertility treatment too.

My partner and I have been having unprotected sex for 2 years and have never had a pregnancy. We have sex about 3+ times a week. When we first got together I had just stopped getting the Depro-Provera contraceptive jab which I had had 3 times over 9 months. It messed up my periods while I was taking it and for a few months after, but they are now regular and otherwise normal. I read lots about women becoming infertile/having great difficultly conceiving after coming off Depro so I decided to not use birth control other than condoms (which we stopped using after about 2 months) and just see how things went naturally.

Before this I had been on the Microgynon pill sparodically for about 2-3 years, I stopped taking it when I switched to Depro. I have also taken the morning after pill twice. I now think that after messing around with my body and hormones/reproductive system so much I may not be able to conceive. I would be terribly upset if this were to be true. I do not want to go to a doctor yet as a) I don't want to have children at this current moment b) we are not actively trying to conceive, but in a couple of years when we want kids if nothing ha happened I will be forced to. Moral of the story: take care of your body! You only get one.

I also have scoliosis with a spinal fusion, but when we asked specifically about having children, I was told that I could have kids, and give birth naturally

I was wondering, how is your fertility tested?

Re: Any girls on here infertile? What are the reasons?
I have PCOS, so... possibly. It can have between no/minimal effect and total loss of fertility. I won't know until/unless I try to have children, but considering the severity of it in me, the odds are against me. Testing isn't much point when it could change either way (I gather wouldn't be much good when on a pill to stop it either!).

As to how I feel about it? Annoyed, is my best answer. I don't know if I want children, but I do know I dislike the very real possibility my body has already made that decision for me.

Yes i think i'm infertile or will be in the near future. I feel numb about it right now although i've always wanted to have children. I'm not sure how i will cope or will be perceived by guys in particular. It seems most guys if not now will want kids in the future. Will I feel like an outcast? will my future partner leave me for not being able to fulfill having a family together? I don't know what to think.
    I'm sorry for your pain
about 3 years ago I was in a accident which lead to me having a hysterectomy in order to save my life. I know how it feel to have that idea of children taken away from you. I'm lucky in that my fiancé understands this and we hope to adopt sometime when we are ready.

My mum has fertility problems due to an infection that blocked her fallopian tubes... Myself and my sisters were conceived by IVF and she also had one naturally conceived ectopic pregnancy (which obviously had to be terminated)

Couldn't they extract your eggs and use a surrogate or something.
