Re: Anyone going to Oxford Brookes?Did independence come naturally to you? Or did you struggle? Sorry for being so personal, please stop me if I get too much(Original post by Charlottay!)
I am a brookes student. About to go into a 2nd year exchange as part of my degree.
Varies per subject as well as how many places they have. I know for my degree last year everybody who gained a place all achieved requirements. (not including mitigating circumstances) Brookes also did not enter clearing last year which goes to say how popular brookes is becoming as a university as so stricter measures will be taken.
Best part about living in halls is meeting loads of new people. I was lucky and got on really well with my flat and block and so spent alot of time with them. Worst thing i guess is just having to remember to do everything yourself. Get your laundry done and make sure washing up is done. Just little things. Hardest thing about living in your own is if you dont go out and mix with people it can get lonely. You are away from home and have to cook every day and clean up and can just be the last thing you want to do but it has to be done.

Re: Anyone going to Oxford Brookes? Also, why is it that we have been told not to bring our cars? Is the city not suited for cars?(Original post by Charlottay!)

Re: Anyone going to Oxford Brookes?I found it really easy to adjust. It helps if you get to know so many people cause everyone is in the same situation and if you all just talk it makes it easier.(Original post by nash_4_lyf)
Also, why is it that we have been told not to bring our cars? Is the city not suited for cars?
Also it is part of your halls contract that you are not allowed a car. If you are caught with a car its a fine. 3 warnings and you will be evicted. Oxford doesn't do cars very well. Best way to get around is by either Bike or bus. Brookes bus pass is included in rent with halls.
Brookes halls are not allowed cars as it is part of an agreement with the local council. -
Re: Anyone going to Oxford Brookes?Right let me clarify. So you cannot bring a car down if you are in halls? Or is it that you can not park it in halls? I think no car is probably better tbh, after thinking ive realised if i bring a car ill have to stay sober! Thankyou for the advice(Original post by Charlottay!)

Re: Anyone going to Oxford Brookes? There is no point bringing it. there is hardly any parking in town and it will just sit there. Even off site you are technically not allowed a car.(Original post by nash_4_lyf)

Re: Anyone going to Oxford Brookes?(Original post by nash_4_lyf)
ahh I chose in order of preference: Man I hope I made the right decision
CLIVE BOOTH HALL
CHENEY STUDENT VILLAGE (50 WEEKS)
WARNEFORD HALL
PAUL KENT HALL
SLADE PARK (42 WEEKS)
Im not the poshest, of girls...Is Oxford Brookes really posh? Im a little nervous about that
X
Brookes isnt that Posh really but people think it is, you will fit in fine.
I'd be careful with 50 week contracts unless you plan to stay in Oxford for the whole year (most people dont) then it is a waste of the extra money. (some are lucky enough to re-let rooms after 38 weeks .
