I've been replying to you on two different threads haha, can tell I'm new to this forum! I'll be studying at the northenden campus. I'm going to have a look at mill point, student castle and unite

No worries haha. I'm new too! :P Mill Point seems decent at a good price
Reply 6
Yeah mill point is really close to the city centre from what I've read on here! I don't know Manchester well so I have to go off what google tells me haha. Have you had your interview for the college? Mines not until August!
Reply 7
I've only been to Manchester a few times haha. I'm from near Sheffield you see  yeah I had it in March and had my conditional offer.
Reply 8
Ohh ok! I'm coming from Cumbria, i can't wait to not be surrounded by fields and sheep! Haha. If you dont mind me asking, did you get student finance for your accommodation? I asked the college about funding for accomodation and they wernt very helpful so I thought i'd just ask some other students

Oooh, that'll be a different experience for you then! haha. Erm, I have no idea to be honest! Do you mean a loan, or a grant?
Reply 10
Yeah I mean a loan, I think I'll just have to contact the job centre or something and see if they can tell me. The college told me they arnt sure about finance for private halls and that I'd just have to pay for rent myself but I think I'll definitely need some sort of loan! Lol.

I think there's a maintenance loan you can apply for? I got so confused with my student finance, and have no idea whether I've done it right or not! Haha. Probably best to ring them up

Have you applied for your student finance? You should get the loan for your actual course which I think is about £5k for the Manchester college, this is money that you will never see as it goes direct to the college/uni.

Then you also might get another loan which is around £3k, this goes towards living expenses when you move out. This is called a maintenance loan.

On top of this maintenance loan, you may also be eligible for a maintenance grant (different to a loan because this is given to you and you don't pay it back). The grant is given to you depending on your situation and income so you can be given anything up to £4k (I think, could be more or less) the grant is also part of your living expenses for when you move out.

so if you add your maintenance loan and maintenance grant together, depending on how much your eligible for, you should be able to afford accommodation as well as having money left to buy food, travel, socialise etc.

Once you've filled out your student finance, you should receive information about how much money you will receive.

Hope this has helped and not confused

I'm abit confused :s-smilie: , is everyone in here doing a degree course at the college?

I should be starting an access course at the college in September but i don't think i am entitled to any finance :frown:

I would like to move to manchester to study the access course otherwise i'll be paying £10 for day return into manchester and back and that'll be for 3 days a week . Then £10 on top of that for taxi to and from campus :frown:.

I might have to do the course part time :frown:

xx
