What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTI
Over the last few weeks , strange things have been occuring:
I constantly need to pee, even when I have't had anything to drink. This worried me especially seeing as we had that heatwave, surely homeostasis means I'm supposed to be conserving more water?
My skin is incredibly dry and rough, the skin allover my face is rough and bumpy and really itchy.
I've all of a sudden got these tiny pimples/spots all over my body; on my chest, back and neck. My friends say they look like bug bites or just normal pimples but i'm unsettled because I never get/have had this before
I have protein in my urine. My dad is a doctor and I grabbed one of his urine dipsticks, everything seems normal apart from I appear to have a lot protein in my urine
Im stressed and my diet has changed dramatically. I'm snacking on so much junk due to exams and don't really have time to visit my GP
Any suggestions ? -
Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTII could just go an ask my dad but he's not around and I don't want to get him worried over something that could potentially be nothing. I just wanted to know if other students were experiencing the same thing as it could just be due to the stress of exam students. Besides with my dad being a doctor, I know how pointless it is wasting time with GP appointments that are always oversubscribed for something pointless like a simple spot or dry skin.(Original post by Rybee)
Don't feel well, Dad's a doctor... I could just go and ask hi....
Actually I'll ask unqualified people on an internet forum mainly used by GCSE and A level students...
I'm not asking for your diagnosis mate -
Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTII'm not sure about nitrites, everything seemed normal apart from a seriously high level of leukocytes(Original post by clarusblue)
Were there nitrites or leukocytes on the dipstick? -
Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTIThe typical dipstick findings in a water infection are leukocytes and nitrites. So that might be your answer.(Original post by Anonymous)

In hot weather like we had its easy to get dehydrated which increases the chance of a UTI
Why not check with your dad though, you may as well. If it was a water infection you'd need antibiotics but in the meantime drink loads of water, I've found that a couple of times if you have an infection brewing you can flush it out without the need for medication.
But just check with your dadLast edited by clarusblue; 07-06-2012 at 11:13. -
Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTII beg your pardon?(Original post by almasy)
Congratulations, your diet sucks so much you've managed to kill your kidneys.
so tell me smart ** how have you come to that conclusion? -
Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTI
I had lots of protein in my urine when I had cystitis, although I'm guessing they were talking about the blood.
protein in urine sounds like a UTI. or you're pregnant! if you've got a UTI you should get some antibiotics. but usually they make your pee burn, but you didn't mention that?
doesn't protein in urine sometimes suggest diabetes or have i mistaken that for something else? -
Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTII cringed when you said the P word, then realised i'm a complete virgin so that's not a possibility(Original post by canŵio)

I think it might be a UTI, does it happen during prolonged stress ? Also I read that pimples can occur after prolong stress because of cortisol release ? -
Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTIstress often causes acne so that's very likely. UTIs are really common so it wouldn't be surprising if you had cystitis or something. cranberry juice/extract helps stop the burning/pain! sometimes they go away by themselves but you usually need antibiotics. stress lowers your immune system so it could be a contributing factor to that too. but go to the doctor! ps. you will have to wee in a pot.(Original post by Anonymous)

I'm not sure about nitrites, everything seemed normal apart from a seriously high level of leukocytes
Now its normal apart from high level of leukocytes.
Which is it? -
Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTIi mean leukocytes, sorry!(Original post by Jamie)
Before you said it was normal except lots of protein.

Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTIYou have protein in your urine... the kidneys are supposed to reabsorb protein, if they're not reabsorbing then they're ****ed(Original post by Anonymous)
I beg your pardon?

Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTIYou really need to go to a doctor. Unless you've been doing intense physical exercise high amounts of protein in urine is not normal and there can be many causes; see here: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/ate/liver...ey/203137.html(Original post by Anonymous)

Re: What do these symptoms tell me? Dehydration or UTIGenerally healthy peoples' urine does contain a small amount of protein, but a high amount of protein can indicate many infections and diseases all centering around the kidney and it's inability to filter the blood properly.(Original post by almasy)

NB: I'm not sure what this amount of protein is meant to be.
