Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!Yeah I think you have a point; McLaren went with evolving their design concept, whereas Ferrari went with a revolutionary idea.(Original post by James A)
I also had a funny feeling during pre season that McLaren had almost reached the absolute potential with that car. It literally has the same front wing (the elements and planes) as the 2011 car. The only major difference is the sidepods and other details.
Perhaps there gets to a point where the McLaren design ethos has reached its potential, further improvements might mean needing to make more dramatic changes.
However, just because McL have perhaps maxed out their potential, that doesn't mean Ferrari is necassarily going to be better, McL might have had a better approach in the first place. -
Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!I don't believe that there is such a thing as absolute potential. There's performance to be extracted from every car, be it aero or mechanical. That said, McLaren need to find some more performance. The advantage they had in Melbourne is gone. The team with the fastest development from this point forwards will win the WCC and probably WDC as well. All the cars are fairly even now, so driver, consistency and development will make the difference.(Original post by James A)

Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!Not really. The team/driver that sufficiently unlocks the potential of the tyres at the right place and the right time, on a consistent basis, will win the title.(Original post by F1Addict)

Development will go hand-in-hand, but understanding the tyres is the key to the title. -
Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!The race starts at 7:00pm UK time.(Original post by Lucozad)
Does anyone know what time it is being streamed live, UK time? -
Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!I think most teams have a decent understanding of the tyres already, and once this increases further, it won't be just about the tyres. The quicker car will be more likely to win. Of course the team/drive that unlocks the potential of the tyres at the right place/time, consistently, will win, but the point is that teams will begin (and maybe are beginning) to do this, so I believe that car performance will play a greater role in the later stages of the season.(Original post by f1mad)

Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!Really? Only a few days ago, a senior McLaren engineer came out and said they still have no idea how they work.(Original post by F1Addict)

Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!That would explain why they're struggling but I think RBR and Ferrari know how to make the tyres work better. Once the main teams understand the tyres, then it will be more down to the car. The balance, imo, is now shifting towards car performance, but it will eventually level out at about 50/50 between tyres/performance, which could make the season end pretty close.(Original post by f1mad)

Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!
Think i just got my first prediciton of the season correct. (Vettel on pole for Fantasy F1)
Also, the top 3 qualifying positions is my predictions for the result so i may get a good haul of points hopefully...
Poor qualifying by Button though...
With the usual crash rate at Canada it could be worth keeping an eye on Marussia/Caterham to see if they can bettere the 12th from Monaco as the 10th place in constructors is worth 10s of millions of pounds... -
Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!
Canada tends to be a great race so looking forward to this.
Another tight qualifying it seems with the top 16 within a second during Q2.
Personally i expect another tight race with Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso, Rosberg and Gosjean all in the running for victory and perhaps several different leaders as some try 2 stop with extra pace.
The biggest test to me will be whether Lotus once again fly away in pace once on hard tyres as i actually think that they have the best race pace of anybody. -
Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!Yep. I know they get a lot of slack for their pace being so far off, but lets not forget that Caterham were 1.6 seconds off the top time in Q1, if they were like that last season they'd easily of made it into Q2. I reckon 2 more seasons and Q1 everyone will have to use the option tyres.(Original post by Motorbiker)

Re: 2012 F1 Canadian Grand Prix- Round 7!Another race for that idiot Button to make a fool of himself.
You mark my words.
Whilst Hamilton probably wins the race, Button will either DNF or finish outside the top 8. Not acceptable.
