Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?I think the huge wages probably play a part.(Original post by Brevity)
Sometimes I think about 80% of the allure of the MC is that they have a cool group name.
If they were called the Crappy Circle, no one would want to work there.
As to the OP, if I grew wings could i fly? Of course I could. So if you get all of the things required by these companies could you get a job with them? Of course you could. -
Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?Yet, almost every US firm in London (even some of the trans-Atlantic ones) pay (sometimes, considerably) more than the MC, but there're never any threads asking about those.(Original post by Konran)
I think the huge wages probably play a part.
I'm not saying ones better than the other: each have their ups and downs. I just think the imbalance of focus is curious.
I'm not sure this is true. Even if you grew wings, your anatomy (especially bone structure) would be too heavy to attain flight. Soz.(Original post by Konran)

Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?Not when you consider the imbalance of numbers. The magic circle train a significant proportion of all newly qualified solicitors. The US firms don't.(Original post by Brevity)

Not gonna lie, I thought this was on about the magicians group called the magic circle. This thread was kind of a let down

Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?They're quite a secretive group. How am I to know you don't need to win a legal battle to prove your worth to get in. I feel mislead(Original post by tdkr)
well it was in the legal section of TSR..................

Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?This is kind of my profile, except i did PPE at uni, not law. Get law work experience, seems to be the major thing I lacked and now I'm paying for it. Also get a good 2.1, supposedly the difference between 60 and 65 is a big one (I'm on the low end of this spectrum)(Original post by tdkr)
if i get AAA/AAB at A Level, 2:1 or better in Law LLB at a Russell Group/Red Brick uni with all the relevent activities etc ? will i have a chance of getting into the likes of big City Firms (Cliff Chance, Slaughters etc)..? -
Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?
The basic answer is that, yes, you can. As has been semi-implied here, in many ways they are not leagues different to other City firms, they are just more consistent in their high quality. If you can get into a Silver Circle firm, a US firm, or a decent mid-size firm, I don't think you are necessarily precluded from joining the Magic Circle.

Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?thanks for the feedback, but a MCs' salaries and benefits are miles ahead !(Original post by Wildcard)

Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?from looking at their web sites and law guides, MCs' salaries (Cliff Chance, Slaughters, A&O etc) seem to be higher than other firms (SC firms such as Wragge & Co etc)(Original post by chalks)

The difference between US and MC salaries is bigger than that between MC and SC (which is negligible) and even that between MC and Wragge (which is not SC).(Original post by tdkr)

Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?
There is a big list of salaries at commercial firms here --> http://www.rollonfriday.com/InsideIn...8/Default.aspx
There isn't much difference between MC firms and the top 20 in general to be honest, at least for trainees and junior associates. -
Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?Such as? Any names?(Original post by Brevity)
Yet, almost every US firm in London (even some of the trans-Atlantic ones) -
Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?Mid-tier firms such as Wragges are not Silver Circle. There is little, if any, difference in pay/benefits offered by the MC and the real SC firms.(Original post by tdkr)

Re: Can i get a training contract with a magic cirlce ?You've quoted a sentence fragment of mine, but I'll assume you want to know what US firms pay; at NQ, Bingham pays £100,000, Sullcrom 97,500, Kirkland / Weil 97,000, Latham 96,700, Cleary 95,000, Skadden Arps / Debevoise 94,000 (these are the highest paying US firms in the City, although others (Shearman, Paul Hastings, Covington, Sidley Austin, etc.) also pay substantially more than the MC).(Original post by Cinnamon_Twist)
