Small Halls at Southampton
Ive applied for my accomodation already, but Im having second thoughts about Small halls, can anyone who visited or lives/has lived there tell me what its like?
pros and cons?
also, what is the likelihood of getting your top two choices, this year we have to make 5 options, and the only two i really like are my first two...
so how does the allocation work?
thanks (: -
Re: Small Halls at Southampton
the social life in southampton is second to none, the nights out are extremely cheap and always involve a lot of drinking and are always so much fun.
Small halls are also really nice, highfield where most of my friends were is really nice, they have a much more family like atmosphere, you tend to know everyone in the halls by the end of the year, where as larger halls like glen (where i was) and wessex you don't tend to get as familiar with people in your halls just your block. so i definitely recommend small halls.
the likely hood of getting your first few choices is minimal, saying that i got my first choice and it may be more likely as there are less student applying this year than last.
hope this helps

Re: Small Halls at Southampton
I was in romero, archers road.
pros:
near the city centre, asda, the common and bedford place. it is close enough to jesters for you to drunkenly stumble home - you'll learn about jesters when you get there.
they have ensuites
in the same block as the laundry room
because they are small, you get to know the 9 people in your flat, and often those in the flats around you
Good security
its not too noisy unless someone is having a party, but if its late it will get shut down
Cons:
your parties get shut down
the fire alarm reguarly goes off at 3 am
kitchens are tiny
10 minute walk from bus stop - pain in the arse if you're running late
the heaters have an economy mode - they run at set temperature for about 30 mins then drop to 14 degrees - gets cold in winter
the walls are also thin so you can hear almost everything your neighbour does. I have the horrific memory of being really hung over and hearing what sounded like my flat mate having sex (shrieking sounds). and as the rooms mirror each other, i was aware of the fact that my flat mate was having sex less then 3 feet away. lovely.
advice: bring a hoody to wear at night
overall, it was a nice experienceLast edited by brunettegirl92; 20-06-2012 at 22:20.
