Not surely why this is in mental health. I guess it's also mentally scarred you, as well as possibly physically.

Not as bad as me. I got really drunk last night and ate a Toblerone straight from the fridge.

Well firstly are you depressed and do you self harm sober? If not then I have no idea why you'd do that drunk other than the fact we all do stupid things when drunk?

If you are however, then I can tell you I've done it before too. So you're not abnormal. And my friend also apparently caught me cleaning the knife. Never before have I felt so ashamed and embarrassed, however luckily he was very understanding. He gave me a couple of days to sort my head out, which I argued was unnecessary as I was drunk when I did it and then randomly asked to go on a long walk at about 2am. That's when he asked whether I had actually self-harmed, whether I'd done it before, whether I wanted him to come with me to the doctors/uni counsellor and I basically poured my heart out, though not completely I must add, just enough for him to understand there was something wrong.

It's up to you whether you ignore anything happened or talk to your friend, I was going to ignore anything happened however was a lot happier to tell someone, especially so there was no awkward moments with "OMG how are you wearing a jumper going out?" etc.

:hugs: Try not to worry too much though, it'll make matters worse. There are worse things you can do drunk, believe me.
Thanks for being so helpful! I used to YEARS ago and I left that behind a long time ago. I'm just kicking myself because I look so ridiculous now and there's nothing I can do to cover it up apart from wearing long sleeves. I'm scared that my housemate has told other people and that they all know, I'm avoiding everyone. I don't know what to say if I get asked, it sounds so weird to be like 'I did it while I was drunk'... I'm most annoyed really that I'm going to have to miss out on a big night because of this stupid thing that I've done, I can't wear long sleeves out and there's no way I can be seen looking like this. I'm also worried because I have to work in two weeks and I have to wear short sleeves for that! The cuts themselves are more like scratches THANKFULLY but they're at the stage where they look a lot worse than they actually are, all red.

If the cuts are just liek scratches maybe try a few excuses, like I fell into a thorn bush?? or a cat attacked me?? something along those lines, I find the thorn bush one works well as it would cause alot of superficial marks.

I know exactly what you mean about the scratches being at the red stage. If they're anything like what I used to do then they should be all cleared up by the time you need to work.
If anyone asks then I'd say just be honest. I'm sure everyone has a stupid drunk story to tell. If they're decent people they should understand and they'll probably be worried about you rather than thinking you're mad. And anyway you don't know for sure whether they know yet so try not to worry about things you don't know.

Nope, no one knows because I don't do it any more, it's not even a problem and I would NEVER intentionally do it again if I was sober! I don't even know what brought it on as I had a nice night, I don't really remember doing it but I think that I just got into a strange mood and couldn't feel what I was doing because I was drunk. I know how weird that sounds, that's why I really don't want to tell anyone but this long sleeves thing is already becoming a nightmare, I hate feeling like I have something to hide!

There's no way I could have fallen into a thorn bush other than to explain these random cuts I did on my hands, on the insides of my arms it's like LINES, so obviously done by me! If anyone sees them they're not going to think I did it when I was drunk! So embarrassing.

Thanks for the reassurance! They're a bit more like scabs today, I just REALLYYY want them to go away! This probably takes the prize for the worst decision I've ever made when I was drunk. I'm literally in awe at how I was so stupid!

could you not wear a cardigan?

i often wear cardigans, and it wouldnt look out of place with a dress, and it would cover the cuts.

then when theyv healed you can go back to not wearing cardies...

Don't mean to sound insensitive, but if that bit in bold is true, why are you getting so worked up? Obviously you're going to be like what the ffffuuuu but if you feel you're mentally sound and it was just a weird result of drinking too much then you need to CHILL OUT - there are plenty more stupid things you could have done when drunk.

I would go to the birthday party and if anyone asks just shrug it off and say you woke up with these cuts but you don't remember a thing about it, make a joke and say you must look like some emo kid that just got dumped or something. People will make a deal out of it otherwise if you start getting all defensive about the cuts and become a hermit crab and act like a recluse?
