    Finding a job in Aberdeen
    Hi everyone,

Life's expensive in the UK for an Erasmus and I was wondering whether it was possible to find a job easily? Where should I look for? Do the uni also provides for jobs?

    Thanks!

there is quite a buoyant local economy in Aberdeen due to the oil. When I was up visiting last weekend the local paper had 20 pages of jobs. I'm sure you'll find something

As EqanHarvey said Aberdeen has a pretty good economy due to North Sea Oil so jobs are fairly, or at least relatively, abundant. failing that the Uni usually offers jobs to students such as working in uni bars etc

Worth noting that the vast majority of the jobs that are advertised in the P&J are looking for qualified engineers or health-care professionals and not part-time student jobs. . .

i guess it depends when you move there... students back for summer that are originally from aberdeen may take up a lot of jobs (transfers, guaranteed summer work etc), but when they leave they advertise for them again, and if you get in there before other students move up or go back up for uni then it shouldnt be a problem. Plus the uni have loads of resources to help

Gumtree is really good - search under part time / weekend jobs - there are always loads of good earners in there for students.

    I've also used www.studentbeans.com and http://www.ausa.org.uk/joblink

    Hope that helps

Are there other jobs that the university offers besides working in a bar? Like, at the library or something to that effect?

Not so much any more since the new library was opened. Although there are other areas that they advertise for but from my experience its not often that they are student friendly hours.

    hi there,
i used to live in Aberdeen for more than 1 year. That's true that the economy there is robust, that's why to find a part-time job there is not a big deal at all. I used to work for Manpower as bar staff, it was good experience and - what matters more when you are a student- they gave me flexible working hours. Some of my friends worked as shop-assistants or as waiters at the italian restaurants. Good luck!

You can also try to search Joblink. About the university jobs - from my experience they are very selective and it's easier to find a job somewhere outside the univesity.

yeah but the fact that there is money in Aberdeen from the oil means there are lots of other jobs.
