Re: Help an ill kid out for his GCSE History test
I'm worrying ATM I might end up on 86% lol but I need 88% minimum for an A overall.
In my past papers which my teacher marked I got 6/6.7/8.9/10.9/10.14/16 =45/50.
But I'm worried that since Im not adjusted for time management and generally speaking are the examiners more lenient than teachers in awarding full marks ?
Suppose I get the same results mentioned above in my previous past papers up but would the examiner likely be awarding full marks
Q1-4 full marks = 34/50. = Borderline A without the hypothesis and I looked at the mark schemes if I can manage to scrape random quick lines summarising the sources in 1-2mins lol I would get 1-6 Marks or should I work my way Like the initial method for evaluating each source step by step in depth with reliability. In other words, should I work step by step evaluating each source at mark band 4(13-16) with reliability however I will be short for time or should i skim through each source making brief statements keeping in mind I'm very limited on time and need those extra marks to grab the A*?

I hate the day before the exam
I still have got to re-read the topics notes+book for the 5th time that would come up in tomorrow exam and memorise my A* structures on how to start each sentence sign post the examiner that I should be in the highest mark BAND A* :s

Lets discuss how we found the exam tomorrow ....

Yeah we will discuss after the time thing! I wish you the best of luck . Serioulsy dont worry! all you need to know is 5 facts :L & i start the paper backwards the 16 marker is important so do your way of analysising each source ect thats the best way. Dont worry! & examiers will give full marks if they believe its worth full they wont be like teachers and ALWAYS give one less hah

Just came back from my Edexcel B2 MC test I'm feeling scared for History in 2hours time @@@h. I was speaking to my other friends (we are a class of 4) for history and the other 3 students(A/A*s) Just memorised and learnt the contextual knowledge but haven't practised any past papers or learnt how to structure and sign post the examiner like Moi. The more worried they are the more confident I am Thank God !@ As long as Student Movement+Women Movement doesn't come up I should be fine(Don't you dare topic4 come up).

Look at your text book after each chapter it gives you guide lines on how to structure your answers btw I used the text books as guide lines couple months ago for my mock for this unit I got 7/10% in most questions however you have to use your own initiative and look at the examiner report and mark scheme look through it so you know how the examiner marks your work. There is a reason why there are resources here not just for the examiners/teachers to mark it but for you to have a look through them and see how the marking takes place. My teacher gave me a sample material where a candidate got 50/50 Raw marks in the exam so I simply looked at my paper and said"what am i doing wrong? what's the difference between my work and his?". I would recommend you use your brain and carefully read the question and for example Question 3 Cross-Referencing In UNIT3C asks for you to compare and evaluate sources and doesn't request any contextual knowledge however in question 4 utility it does.

Good Luck In your exam And god wish low grade boundaries Plz!!!

I found the exam to be "O.K" I had a feeling McCarthy ism would turn up wish I covered the topic a little bit more In revision as I turned a Blind eye and thought Civil rights/Black power would turn up... Now "I have a dream, that one day GCSE RESULTS...My results will rise up and live out the expectations of my A overall" =)

I finished Q1 Probably 6/6. Q2 I believe I got 7/8. Q3 Cross referencing I thought it would be How far do sources A,B,C agree about McCarthy Influence however it said how far do source B,C support the evidence of Source A about McCarthy. I probably got 9/10 I mentioned everything In the mark schemes for the highest band I'm begging the examiner lol to give me 10/10 I need it so desperately. Q4 utility I found okay But my analysis points were weak However I mentioned the Mark band 4 points should get 8-9/10

    BUUUUUUT

I ran out of time on the hypothesis I just managed to scrape in the introduction and analysis Source A. I never analysed source B,C,D,E,F and done a conclusion I believe I probably got 3-6 marks maybe 4/16 overall which puts me 35-36 Grade boundaries which is a strong A
Time management dropped me from my Potential A* WHY ME !@@@@

I got my coursework result In my class of 4 pupils My 3 friends got 42/50, 45/50 and 47/50 yet I was seen dsylexic lol came out with 37/50 which fails in my eyes.. Is 37/50 an A?? Please
I need 320/400 Overall for my A....2months of hard-work for nothing for this unit3c exam... -.-...
39/50 is an A on the Controlled assessment (using last years boundaries), so i guess 37/50 is a high B...

Re: Help an ill kid out for his GCSE History test
I Just looked at the grade boundaries for Coursework A4 unit for the past few years. (2010+2011)

Apparently, your teacher tells you what raw mark you scored in your coursework I.E my teacher told me I got 37/50 whereas the rest of my class got 43,45 and 47/50. Interestingly I found that A*= 42-43/50 Raw Marks and an A= 38-39/50 Raw Marks.

Assuming An A=38 and I got 37 would that mean I got 78% In coursework. 76%+86%+78%=240 and I would need 80%(just scrape an A) for an A overall right?

sum1 check if Im adding it up right plz...

Yeah, if you mean % to be the UMS then yes only need 80 UMS for an A
