    Computer build
    Hello everybody,

Following on from a previous thread I've decided that I'm going to upgrade my current computer instead of buying a new one. Because I'm upgrading it I will only need to buy the core components, which means that I'll save money.

In short, are these components good considering that I play games on higher settings and I like to sometimes edit video:

    Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-3450 (3.1GHz) 6MB Cache (3rd Gen)

    ASUS® P8Z77-V LX: USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, ATI®CrossFireX

    8GB SAMSUNG DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 4GB)

    1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 550 Ti - DVI,HDMI,VGA

Also, I've got a 600W PSU which I believe will power all of these.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Scrap the GTX 550. Buy a Radeon HD 6850 instead. If you can push your budget, the 6870.

Show us the links your getting them from?

    The 2x4gb ram seems weak.

And mikey is right, get a 6850 around the same price but better.
And whats the power supply called?

The computer itself is from PCSpecialist, they build computers. I got it in 2008, and they would be prepared to sell me the components so I could upgrade it myself.

I wouldn't know what the name of the PSU is without opening up the computer which would be inconvenient at the moment but this is what PCS say about it: "600W Quiet Quad Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan"

You can go to other places to buy components PC specialist isn't necessarily the cheapest.

You should really find out about that psu, because if it's not 80plus certified you would have issues with it.

Yeah, I wasn't necessarily going to purchase the components from PCS but those parts are what they recommended to me.

Also they sold the PSU to me and they have said that it'd be okay, but yeah I will take your advice and find out about that PSU.

Also ask around on the forum about the parts and your budget.........don't trust people from shops trying to sell their products, they have to be bias some way.

Yeah definitely find out, because 600 watts isn't enough, has to be 80plus certified to be any decent.

Isn't 80plus more about the efficiency of the PSU? If 600W is not enough in what way would 80plus change this?

Yeah it's about efficiency........but that means like you get as close as you can get to the 600 watt promised.
Some of the low end non-certified come no where near to what they promise.
And it's important to have a good efficient power supply with enough power to power your graphics card, motherboard, processor, etc

80 Plus is a vague sign of quality. It's more about brand. Corsair, Antec and Seasonic are the stop quality brands. I wouldn't really go with anything other than them (there is some other pretty good brands out there though).
