Unit 4 Question: Phillips Curve Application?

I have heard so much about students who use this curve in the wrong situation. When would it be relevant to use the Phillips Curve, except for a question which directly talks about the trade off between employment and inflation? I have no idea and the books I have cover it in so much detail, it must be relevant somewhere else other than policy conflicts.
