    Chance of LSE Law
Hi everyone, just wondering whether you would be able to give me some honest advice as to whether I have a decent chance of getting an offer from LSE for Law.

    I got 8 A*s, 1 A and 1 B for my GCSEs.
The B was in Music, and the A was in English Language, which is what I am slightly concerned about as LSE state that they regard the GCSE English Language grade as a sound indicator of ability, so I am not sure as to whether that would disadvantage my application.

For AS I took French, German, Maths and Chemistry and I have been predicted 4 A s, but obviously I will have to wait until August to find out!

I have done 2 different work experience placements at different law firms and I will be undertaking a week of work experience with a Barristers' Chambers this December.

    Thank you

I actually don't think your GCSE's matter as much. I know a lot of people (including two of my cousins) who got into LSE with unimpressive GCSE grades but did well at A-level. I myself have applied to LSE to study L.L.B for the 2012 entry! I think you should be fine, just keep your fingers crossed!
    Wish you all the best

    Pretty good.

Get your PS up to scratch - I recommend right now.

    Are you thinking about Oxbridge?

I have started drafting my personal statement as I know that LSE put a large emphasis on it! Do you have any thoughts about the English Language grade problem?

I would absolutely love to apply to Oxbridge but my school have told me that I do not have a chance, hence my Oxbridge dream has already been shattered

    Your school is stupid; apply.

The English language grade will not be a problem.

Haha thank you, my parents told me to ignore school too so I think I will, provided that results go as planned

    Thank you for helping!

ignore them those grades so far are easily good enough for oxbridge, and considering LSE is on the whole more picky than oxbridge go for it

Thank you for all of your advice! Pakman, just wondering whether LSE ask for AS grades when you apply, and if you do not mind me asking, what were yours?

I'm thinking of LSE, Cambridge, King's, Warwick and Bristol as my 5 choices, do you think that this is a good combination?

    Thank you

Looks like a good combo; most people would say that you're missing an insurance, but I didn't have one either, if you're confident enough then you don't need one. All universities will know your AS grades as you'll input them onto UCAS.

    Of course

    but

    LSE is a lottery
Cambridge - interviews, CLT, written work, high UMS
    King's - LNAT
    Warwick - good PS
Bristol - good PS + LNAT

    And of course, the grades

    Thank you for the advice!

I was a bit wary of Bristol in case I mess up the LNAT, in which case Bristol and King's would be out of the window! I was thinking about Newcastle instead of Bristol before and I think I will apply to Newcastle instead, because at the open day the admissions tutor said that as long as you are predicted the grades, you will get an offer! Seems like a 'safer' option whilst still being a great university, at which I would love to study

From personal experience, the LNAT is something you are unlikely to mess up. That's a symptom of one of the main reasons it's used: it tests competence, not performance. Accordingly, there is very little you can do to%2

From personal experience, the LNAT is something you are unlikely to mess up. It's a consequence of the test's design: it aims to test competence, not performance. Accordingly, there is very little you can do to train for it. I did three practice tests in the old format and my scores were all within two points of each other, and when I did the actual thing in the new format (new that year) my score scaled up perfectly from the average of my three practice scores. In other words, my scores were very consistent. There was also no correlation between practice and performance.

If I were you, I would have a go at the practice tests online now if you can. Your performance will either allay your fears or confirm your suspicions. You can then make an informed decision about whether or not to apply to LNAT universities.

Wait, aren't Warwick and Bristol the safer insurance choices? Warwick was mine when I applied in any case.

OP, go ahead and apply to LSE/Cambridge, your grades certainly won't be an impediment.

They are for some, but many people consider them to be top choice universities rather than insurances. If, however, OP feels that his application is strong enough, then these are good insurances.

Predicted 2A*s and 1A, and my offer is A*AA. Got AAAA at AS if that helps at all as well, not sure how much emphasis they place on AS compared to predicted grades.
