Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] DiscussionI panicked in the C3 exam so did rather badly, but just to see how I was doing, the other day I did a random paper and got 69/72 without any real revision so feeling much better. You never know.(Original post by TrampingRampage)
I need an A* too
I got 85 UMS in C3 so I am retaking that, but ideally I hope this goes well because I don't have time to do much for C3 with my other exams.
I am dreading the comprehension so badly, and I hope silly mistakes don't occur because you can't afford to lose any marks in Paper A given the unpredictable Paper B (I liked the Sudoku comprehension but didn't dig the others). I just hope this paper is a good one!
Good luck everyone!
I agree on the sudoku one, I really enjoyed that one.
The geometric sequence one was alright too.
But omg the waves one :'( -
Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] DiscussionWow that's really good and with no revision, I guess C3 is still fresh in your mind!(Original post by Amy-Rose)

Yeah when I did the past papers before doing the January C3 I got near full marks, but the January C3 paper was extremely difficult for me, and I also panicked which made it worse.. But I think the pressure of knowing this is the last time for me to get it right for an A* is making me all panicky so I hope I can relax..
It's just the degree of unpredictability of the comprehension I don't like, and the boundaries for A* are ridiculously high for some (like the 83/90 for the Jan 09 one for 90 UMS! That paper wasn't THAT EASY) but fingers crossed because the Jan 12 papers were quite difficult, our papers this time will be reasonable
I haven't done the waves one :P I saw it and was put off immediately haha! Have you done most of them? I have only tried three comprehension ones, and I only get around 10-14 marks
Good luck on your exams!Last edited by TrampingRampage; 10-06-2012 at 23:13. -
Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] DiscussionThere's only really 7 that I had to 'learn' and just spend half an hour rewriting them in different colours, thats what I did last week and I can still remember them.

Ones like cosec(theta)=1/sin(theta) are easy to remember as it is 1/(the one that starts with the third letter) ie. cosec=sin, cot=tan, sec=cos, if you didn't already know that trick.
Just write them all down on the question paper in a list once you get in, and when you need to use them, refer to the list and pick the one you need.

Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] Discussion
For me the comprehension (I hope/beg) will be fine, as I tend to get full marks on them.
Paper A though..... ohhhh dear. I'll be so devastated if I don't get an A overall, not only because I'll miss my uni offer but also because I've worked so damn hard at maths this year, doing both AS and A2 at once. I think I only need a high C to get an A overall but at the moment, I'm not even sure I'll get that

Could someone please help me with q7)i as I don't get why they changed the signs of the direction in the vector equation bit -
Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] Discussionnot sure but I don't think the sign matters in that part as they both take you along the line, just in a different direction.(Original post by nju)

however, not completely sure as im not that good at maths

Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] DiscussionSorry I don't think my question was clear. The vector AB is -1x-2y so when you are writing the vector equation why does the direction bit change to 1x+2y(Original post by Ninjaelephant)

Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] Discussionaccording to mymaths, there are multiple ways to write the vector equation of a line and instead of doing the usual r = a + lambda(b-a) you can also do(Original post by nju)

r = b + lambda(a-b). hope this helps but if not try looking on mymaths if you have access to it. -

Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] DiscussionAsides from the obvious 3, what are the other 4 we "need" to know?(Original post by Amy-Rose)

Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] DiscussionI never said you "need" to know any! My personal way of tackling trig questions is to have the list I've learnt to work from, you may need to learn fewer than them and that's fine...(Original post by LastHype)
Asides from the obvious 3, what are the other 4 we "need" to know?
sin^2x+cos^2x=1
tan^2x+1=sec^2x
cot^2x+1=cosec^2x
sin2x=2sinxcosx
cos2x=cos^2x-sin^2x
cos2x=1-2sin^2x
cos2x=2cos^2x-1
tan2x=2tanx/1-tan^2x -
Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] Discussion
im gona ask all the questions i'm not sure about,,,her's one basically
whe you have rsin(x-alpha) or rsin(x-alpha)
and they ask you how to find the coordinates of the turning pointsh, how would you do this i know, that r=x so is the min or max value but how would you find the coordiantes for each...thanks in advance..
and could anyone be kind enough to explain q6 on june 2002 paper and why lamda is 3 in Q7 ii)Last edited by Fatima0065; 12-06-2012 at 21:59. -

Re: OCR MEI C4 [June 14th] DiscussionYour teacher suggested you needed them and didn't give you a list or anything?(Original post by LastHype)

Harsh. Anyway, no problem!
