    c3 solomon paper h q7
    i did it and i got inverse of f(x) as 1+ (x-4)^0.5
    they then ask whats the transofrmation from y=root (x)
    i said move 1 up and 4 to the right

    the mark scheme says one down and 4 to the left
    am i missing something or is theres a typo
    i just want to make sure that mine is corect
    thanks

    I'm guessing that if f(x) = 1+ (x-4)^0.5
    then your transformation would have been correct.

    But because it is the INVERSE of f(x), then the transformation is the opposite (inverse) way around.
    so you ups become down and your rights become left...

    like i said, i'm guessing though (trying to bump your post up so others can help )

    It's because you're going from  f^{-1}(x) to  y=\sqrt{x}

    Your answer of one up and four to the right would be correct if you were going from y=\sqrt{x} to f^{-1}(x)

f^{-1}(x)= \sqrt{x-4} +1

-1\text{ move down the y axis 1 unit}\text

+4\text{move left across the x axis 4 units}\text
