Confusion about BTEC Science grades, help please
So, for Year 11, I've been doing BTEC Applied Science and I've completed all my work. My teacher reckons that I should get either a Merit or a Distinction. I was just wondering how the BTEC grades are presented on the piece of paper we get in August. Are they written as 'Merit' or 'Distinction' or as 'A' (to represent a Distinction) or 'B' (to represent a Merit).

They will be represented as P for Pass, M for Merit, D for Distinction and D* for Distinction* if possible on your course.
And you will get a certificate with your grades on, for example Distinction in BTEC Level 2 Applied Science.

I took BTEC Sports Science and achieved D*D*D*D*, I thought this was equivalent to A*A*A*A*, as this is what the teachers at my school told us. They told us that BTECs were equivalent to GCSE grades. They're not.

BTECs at this level (level 2), are not worth a damn thing. I swiftly found this out as I applied to college and they said they do not accept BTEC grades. Which left me with about 8 GCSEs, knowing that they weren't worth anything for all the work I put into it is a bit rubbish, I'd rather of taken more GCSEs.

To answer your question, it will be either D or M in your case. They have no links to GCSE grades so will not be represented as A, B, C grade or anything.

First of all, well done on achieving four distinctions. That's great.

Oh Wow. I was always under the impression that BTEC grades were equivalent to GCSE grades. I wonder why teachers tell us that.

Thanks! Seems a bit of a waste spending so much time on it and getting nothing out of it now though. Ah well!
I actually emailed a University in regards to GCSE requirements, to see if they would accept my 4 D*'s and they said they would accept it as a single C grade at GCSE.
That's just how low they look on them!

Yeah, they're supposed to be, but unfortunately no-one looks at them like that. The only thing they are good for is showing your capability to do Level 3 BTEC.
