Protected NCD? What does that mean??
Im 18 years old, passed for 13 months, no driving history. Want to get insured on my dads car, as a named driver. Quote came up to £1395 with Coop Young Drivers. He has 5 years NCD. Car is a Civic 1.5 Vtec Sport.
If i take of the 'Protected NCD', the quote comes down to £1097. Which is perfect. Just a few queries. What does Protected NCD mean? Shall i choose it?
Tbh if my dad crashes (or me), we wouldnt claim on our insurance anyway, as it would get more expensive the following year. no matter what, we would never claim on our insurance at all. So shall i go for it? what if someone crashes into us? Or we crash into someone, but sort it out privately with cash? Someone help me please, i havent bought the quote yet but i am about to.
Thanks for all reply's. Appreciated. -
Re: Protected NCD? What does that mean??
Protected no claims bonus means you keep all your no claims bonus in the event of a claim. My insurer offers protected (2 claims a year) or guaranteed (unlimited claims), the latter being a lot more money. I just shelled out for protected just in case as it wasn't a lot more money.
Mind you, I appreciate what you're saying about claiming, but unless you've got a lot of money in the event of a personal injury claim it'll result in the insurer having to pay out, plus modern cars seem really expensive to repair compared to older cars. I understand what you mean though. -
Re: Protected NCD? What does that mean??
1 more query, my house doesnt have a garage. But if i write that the car will be parked in a garage, it knocks of 300 quid. How will co op know that my car isnt parked in a garage overnight?
Another query, im going to be paying the car insurance for me and my dad. So that will be about 1400 quid comin out of my pocket. Shall i put the money in my dads account and use his card, or my card? As insurance will be thinking 'fronting' is going on, because im paying for it? Wen really im not a main driver? Help? Thanks -

I would have it, as you get to keep your no claims if you do have an accident and it is your fault (if it is the other person who is at fault then you are claiming off them anyway and it has nothing to do with your no claims).
Cheers for explaining clearly. Thanks.
