Re: *video included* laptop
7 minute video? jog on! Try this:
Common problems
If that doesn't work, get it repaired. Not much we can do on here. -
Re: *video included* laptop
If it is not booting at all and has no video output through an external monitor then it could be a RAM problem. I have had laptops do exactly this in the past and it was all due to the RAM.
Open the RAM cover on the bottom of the laptop and take all modules out, then try them one at a time in both slots. You could also use a brush to clear any dust out of the slots which may have built up on the contacts.Last edited by Scott1541; 09-06-2012 at 10:48. -
Re: *video included* laptopI'd consider it a last resort as it can be quite laborious disassembling a laptop depending on how 'deep' in it is. So try swapping the RAM thing posted above, although I think most computers have various 'beep codes' for RAM issues.(Original post by mangoh)
haha amazing video!
lol I realised half way in, I mentioned I forgot to shoot horizontally
what do I do?
turn off laptop, open it up, take out CMOS battery, insert back in, turn on laptop?

If you do try the battery thing, get the cmos battery and start the laptop without it, you can replace it after if it's working. -
Re: *video included* laptopIt depends on the design of the laptop, but my cmos battery is right under the RAM cover, might be worth having a look at the service guide to see where it is, it might be in easy reach - and easy to fix/rule out.(Original post by Jake9)

Re: *video included* laptop
Do the fans continue running at full speed after you switch it on? Can you hear the hard drive spinning? We had this problem on a laptop recently and it turned out to be a problem with the motherboard, but you can never know unless you test everything. If you have more than one RAM module try removing one and swapping them round the slots. Some laptops beep or flash their lights to indicate errors, but as far as I can see your laptop isn't doing anything like that.
Thankfully in our case we took the laptop back to where we bought it from (Costco) and they gave us a full refund (!!) despite us taking it back after 18 months. I'd strongly recommend buying a laptop from Costco if you ever need to buy a new one and can find someone with a membership card, as their normal return policy is 6 months and that's even if the laptop's not broken. It's much better than dealing with Knowhow (TechGuys) who I've had no end of bad experiences with.
