    Best way to remove rust?
    Hey guys;

    Well, I have a key for my window and, while the teeth are fine, the head is covered in rust and wondered what would be the best method to remove it without damaging the teeth and thus making the key unusable.

    Thanks.

    What I have done is the following;

    Tied a piece of rope to a pencil and a key.
    Placed the key in a bowl of coke so only the rusted part is submerged in coke because of the acetic acid reacting with the rust.

    Will this damage the iron once the rust is removed?

    Try adding the key to a bowl of vinegar, letting them soak for about 30 minutes.
    After 30 minutes, try brushing the rust off with a small brush, if this doesn't work, give it another 30 minutes.
    Again, if this doesn't work, give it more time and try brushing it again.

    The ethanoic acid in the vinegar removes the rust.

    Good luck!
