What universities will take on low grades?
So I'm thinking, worst case scenario is if I get zero marks on everything I did in June 2012. Sticking to what I know I already got for sure. My grades would be D's and E's.

What universities are most likely to accept low grades, particularly through clearing. (Without focus on a particular course. I.e. Universities with a history of being lenient)

Have a look at universities in the Million+ group, as they tend to offer some of the lowest grades http://www.millionplus.ac.uk/members/index

However, what comes up in clearing is pretty random. I think this year will be a fairly good year to be in clearing, as applications fell this year, and so there will be more places available. I've even heard rumours of Law at Manchester being in clearing, although they won't take people with D/E grades.

Anyway, if the worst comes to the worst (and it sounds as though you're really planning for the worst case scenario here!) then your best bet will be to look on clearing on results day and see what's available.

You will also have to consider whether retaking and reapplying will be best for you.

Thanks Origami, Any idea what clearing is like? Is it a case of looking at a screen and selecting a course off a list or is it via phone?

You look on UCAS at what courses are in clearing, and then you ring up the university to see if they'll take you. It's somewhat stressful, but your school should help you.

Although I don't believe that someone would get zeroes in everything, still there are universities which would offer you anything you want solely for money. So worry not, I know it must be confusing as to find the university that offers you a course and at the same time, it shouldn't be the worst one. Just keep googling, you'll find one.

What worries me about clearing is the "First come first served" thing. It's worrying that I have to rush everything in order to get onto a decent clearing course. AKOSFNHOPAOAPIN panic.

Have a plan in advance, and at least 2 phones fully charged up. If you can have somebody with you to hang on the end of an engaged phone on your behalf while you're on the other phone, it can be a big help. There's lots of advice to be found in the previous year's Clearing threads (I know, because I put quite a lot of it there) and there will certainly be more this year. Have an outline of what you'll be prepared to compromise on in advance, and have a look at plenty of university websites ahead of the day.
