Oh okay, and to the question of what if i get a pay rise, i just wont accept it. So basically will have 1 legit job, and another job thats cash in hand. Loads of people have jobs paid cash in hand
Thanks for all the replies.
But it will still be worth taking - you'll only pay 9% of it in student loan, 20% will go on tax, and the remaining 71% will be yours (after tax)
You seem determined not to pay off your student loan, even if it is detrimental to you (and having HMRC find out that you're evading tax is more than just detrimental). Bizarre. -
Re: How to pay back uni fees?Wouldn't be the case because it is off of your total income - if your salaried job was 20k then any 'cash in hand' income would have to be declared for taxes regardless.(Original post by VtecMB3)
Thanks for that point! So over 15 grand and u have to declare it. Got it.
You pay taxes on all income over a certain threshold (£9,000 I think), so you'd be liable to prosecution for tax evasion.
£20,000 and a cash-in-hand job earning £1,500 both have to be declared for national insurance and tax deductions.
Edit: You're considering sitting on ~£20,000 for 30 years of your life, by the age of 50 you'll still be earning just £20,000 all to get your uni loans struck off? Seems stupid and bizarre, might as well not go to uni in the first place if you intend to earn no more than £20k until into your 50sLast edited by HeyyImRyan; 09-06-2012 at 15:22. -

I would consider our tax system unethical. -

Oh boy...where to begin? -
Re: How to pay back uni fees?PAYE.(Original post by Dragonfly07)
Start with the argument you would find most convincing. -
Re: How to pay back uni fees?I don't understand what's wrong with that other than that I think it should start at a slightly higher higher pay.(Original post by Aack)
PAYE. -
Re: How to pay back uni fees?Well compare it to people who don't pay tax via PAYE.(Original post by Dragonfly07)

Re: How to pay back uni fees?Owh, dear.(Original post by Origami Bullets)
What would you prefer - poll tax? -
As far as I understand you only pay the 9% back on the money that you earn over the threshold. So if you have to start paying back money at £21,000, and you go straight into a decent job earning £30,000, you pay just over £800 a year. That doesn't seem that much, considering your degree directly contributes to your above-average income.
