Thin laptop, ssd, camera
Are there any decent ultraportable laptops, with a solid state drive and a rear facing camera? For about £800?
Not really a requirement, but those touchscreen flip screens like dells inspiron duo look quite cool
Also, how is the dell xps 13? It's out of my price range but was wonderingLast edited by Dmon1Unlimited; 09-06-2012 at 11:51. -
Re: Thin laptop, ssd, cameraYh, or one that simply rotates, which I'm sure I've seen before somewhere...(Original post by Gofre)
Rear facing camera, as in one on the outside of the laptop so that you can't see it facing when the laptop is open?
I.e. if you raise your head so your looking past the laptops screen, laptops camera points in the same direction to what you see -
Re: Thin laptop, ssd, cameraRecord stuff pretty much. Suppose a swivelling camera makes more sense than one just pointed outward.(Original post by tallen90)
What exactly are you planning to do with the front facing camera?
Anyway, I just came to say this: DON'T get a Dell laptop; overpriced garbage.
This was posted from The Student Room's Android App on my GT-I9100
Bit harsh? A friend recommended this, his brother got a similar one with a touch screen monitor which he used for work and really loved. http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-duo/pd
What do you think about the HP folio?Last edited by Dmon1Unlimited; 09-06-2012 at 19:59. -
Re: Thin laptop, ssd, cameraHaven't seen anything like that in years unfortunately, especially not in anything with a particularly slim form factor. Would you not be better off moving some of your budget into buying a separate digital camera? Even a second hand Flip HD would offer better quality than anything an integrated webcam will.(Original post by Dmon1Unlimited)
Yh, or one that simply rotates, which I'm sure I've seen before somewhere...

Re: Thin laptop, ssd, cameraI suppose your right, or I could just forget about the camera and use my phone instead.(Original post by Gofre)

Couldn't find anything that had everything but two that caught my eye were the HP folio and the toshiba satellite, both are well within budget, light and fast. Though I'm curious about gaming potential of the two -
Re: Thin laptop, ssd, cameraIf you want to game, get a desktop if you possibly can. Gaming laptops are prone to overheating, and you'll get better performance from a desktop (for a cheaper price, too).(Original post by Dmon1Unlimited)

Re: Thin laptop, ssd, cameraI'm not a hardcore gamer, Though it would be a good perk if it could play games(Original post by tallen90)

I've been researching between
HP folio
HP envy/envy spectre
Toshiba satellite
Dell expos 13
As well as some others, and in terms of processing power, ssd, ram, screen, size/weight, cost (obviously) and extra quirks, it seems the HP folio 13, while not as sexy as the others, seems to be the most value for money. (had to remove the webcam bit sadly)
Would you agree?
I basically want something cheap, light (I.e. ultra book), powerful enough to run smoothly, and let me use the web browser with the millions of tabs I use, run full hd movies seamlessly and if possible, run a few games, not necessarily run the most intensive game at max settings, but it should have a little grunt under the keyboard
Would you suggest anything better than the folio? -

I'm no really sure now, the HP envy spectre xt looks good, both aren't very powerful but still look very cool
Not sure which to choose (or pick another)
