    Advanced higher
Are 3 advanced highers better than 2 advanced highers and 2 highers?

it depends on the university. some see a wide variety of highers better than specialised advanced level highers. if you get me! unless you're doing say biology at university, in which case advanced biology would definitely help.

Well I think if you get the right grades for your highers this year, then the ones you want to do in 6th year sound really good for whatever course you'd want to do.

If you're going to apply to an English uni then yes yes yes to more advanced highers! They view advanced highers equal to A levels so 3 advanced highers is more likely to get you in

3 AHs are a must for almost all English universities. Btw why did you choose St Andrews in particular?

Can't you take them at another nearby school? I know my school offered that, as long as their periods for the class matched theirs. If not, you should perhaps take another advanced higher, perhaps in something unrelated to the maths and physics side

It all depends on what subjects you are taking and how they relate to the course you are applying for.

Your S5 choices seems suitable, i cannot comment on others to take as I dont know what you enjoy/ are good at.

In terms of S6: Adv Stats, Adv Math and Adv Physics (well thats my opinion)

It would really depend on which course and where! Why don't you phone up universities and ask? They have a line for people asking admission questions. I phoned up when I was applying to see if what subjects/grades I had were enough, and she told me there and then "yep, as long as your statement's good you should get in". And I did! So it's worth phoning up and asking which course etc would be best for them.

And if youre nervous about that (as I was) they dont take your name or anything so you can remain anonymous :P

I enjoy all subjects except art and these subjects for S6 are perfect but unfortunately my school doesn't offer stats

3 Advanced Highers are not essential for English universities.

I'm at Newcastle with one, and Oxford only ask for 2As at AH for the PPE course (and I know someone at Oxford doing PPE with two AHs)

    That's what I thought
but 2 advanced higher vs 4 a levels will b a disadvantage for me as most ppl in england do 4 or more a levels

    for a start, most people don't do 4 A2s

And, unless you're going to a university that's well known for just not 'getting' Scottish qualifications (*cough* Durham *cough*) you should be alright.

You shouldn't be at a disadvantage, as any good admissions tutor should understand that an A level and an Advanced Higher are not the same thing.

I would not consider crap unis which don't give admission to scottish people ((*cough* Durham *cough*)
