Would universities be more lenient on applicants from bad schools
    ^Title^

    *No offence intended*

Students that go to private schools obviously get a better education compared to students that go to a school that's not doing so well. If two people apply for a university (same course) with the same AS grades and one went to a private school whereas one went to a **** state school. Would they be considered equally or would the university be slightly lenient to the candidate who went to the state school due to the fact that he/she had less opportunities etc.

Lenient to the candidate from the worst school, they basically say if your from a school where the average is 5 A*-C grades not including English and maths and you get 10 A*s it's better than if you go to a school where average is a bunch of A*s. I think it's because you've shown you've gone beyond the standard of learning in your school.

Universities do recieve anual data about schools so i suppose in theory its possible.

In practise its down to the individual admissions person.

There is a 'flag' system, and if you went to a particularly bad school you would get a red flag next to your name when admissions officer consider you. But I can't whether they'd be more lenient, as it depends on what tehy are looking for and what they see in each candidate after interviews etc..

You do know admissions aren't based solely on grades ?

It's not only the grades they will be looking at. Reference from the school is also important. However an interviewer from Oxford told me they do exercise positive discrimination for state school applicant.

Average. I have seen schools below 40% and are bad schools.

Sorry but it's bad if you compared with private & grammer schools. An average private school will achieve 98% of 9A*-C.

They might be lenient to some extent, especially if you go to a notoriously bad school, but not enough to make a massive amount of difference, so don't go making your applications based on this fact, be realistic.
