If the Christian religion is built upon forgiveness and reformation, why do people go to Hell? Surely Jesus would want to reform you to be a better person than just punish you without a chance of improving your way of life?

I believe "Repent, you sinner!" covers it.

Don't know what Jesus thinks, but, my views are treat people for who they are, not who they were.

I think the idea is, you're forgiven if you're truly sorry (repent, as a post above said) and honestly change, but if you just ask to be forgiven, and then just carry on, then you wouldn't be forgiven.

Whilst it is certainly true that God is able and indeed can forgive all, a distinction i think needs to be made between those who actually ask for forgiveness and those that don't and carry on with whatever sinful acts they do. I guess this also links in with the idea of God being just. Imagine the situation where someone lives a life of sin and evil but repents to God and reforms himself whilst the other lives a life purely of sin yet never repents. Doesn't it seem more unjust that the latter goes to heaven as well although never repenting for what he did?? Well that's my take on it anyway

That is a really good question - but then again, according to the Bible (God forgive me if I am incorrect) God forgives the ones that ask for forgiveness and many do not ask for forgiveness.

Well have you been talking to the dead and found out that they went to hell??

    Exactly.

Plus, I don't know why atheists are worried about heaven or hell. If you don't give a **** about religion, then you shouldn't complain if you end up in hell! You don't lose anything in believing, yet you don't because there's no evidence :dontknow:

You goto heaven if you say sorry before you die (is the basic answer).

What about it you kill someone? Surely, there must be things beyond forgiveness.

because that would be too perfect and religion would be powerless to stop people being naughty.

Christianity just doesn't seem very logical to me. Just by believing in Jesus as your "saviour and lord" means you can go to heaven no matter what you've done. A bit wishy-washy if you ask me.

Basically, they don't discount someone because of who they used to be e.g. an abuser, rapist, criminal, etc.

God only forgives those who sincerely repent and make a concious effort not to sin again.
