Maths at Uni?
I'd love to study maths at uni but I'm not sure which uni to choose out of these:
Royal Holloway
Surrey
Kings
Sussex
Canterbury (Kent)
Reading
Portsmouth (safety net)
I haven't visited any of the above yet but I will next week and onwards until July. I'd probably want to study G100 course, i've looked at offers and most range from AAB -BBB. Also i'd wondered which unis tended to be a bit quieter as I don't really like the idea of clubbing XD If anyone has any anecdotes about their time at any of the unis studying maths I'd really appreciate it

but I do know a little about Sussex. Although it is near to Brighton, good for going out, the university itself is on a campus and subsequently quite quiet - the accomodation chosen can vary from the party-hard areas to much more more peaceful places. I'm not sure about the course or reputation for maths though (but it is a decent uni)
From your list I think Kings/RH are best but they are of course in London. Could be a pro or a con really. -
Re: Maths at Uni?Did you go there for the ucas day a couple of months ago? I didn't really get to see much of the proper campus, but their sports facilities look immense(Original post by EckoGecko)
I visited Surrey to look at their G100 course and wow, it is a lovely university.
I thought the maths department was good, but the campus impressed me much more. :P

Re: Maths at Uni?So are you at uni at the moment? I know it sounds like a stupid question :L And are you doing the G100 course?(Original post by EckoGecko)
I went around this time last year. The sports facilities are to die for, absolutely incredible. :P

The course I applied for is slightly different; G140 but I'm pretty sure it covers the same things as G100. -
Re: Maths at Uni?Kings is by far the best out of those universities for mathematics. you need AAA/A*AA depending if you've done a-level FM/AS FM.(Original post by Mrs Huntley)

what do you mean by quieter? people go clubbing at every uni. It depends who you hang around with and/or who your flatmates are, if you have halls.
the maths people at my uni (kings) are cool
, but a lot of them don't go clubbing.
our library (maughan library) is HUGE!Last edited by I smell like maths; 18-06-2012 at 00:08. -
Re: Maths at Uni?
If you're coming to the RHUL maths open day, just have a chat with the people helping out. They're all mostly only graduates and they'll give you a first hand personal experience. It's late right now and I'm typing on my phone, but if you come along to the rhul maths open day next week I'd be happy to give you my personal opinion.
