Looking for a bit of advice here guys- just finished my first year of uni and I'm now home for the summer. A good friend of mine has been saying how down he has been feeling this last week because he misses this exchange student whose gone back home (abroad) for good now and he is unlikely to ever see her again as flights e.c.t are expensive. Any suggestions on what I can say/do to try and help in someway? It's killing me hearing how upset he is. Note I can't see him as we live some distance away when we aren't at uni.

How down is this person? Are you sure he's not over it? Where did the exchange student go and why did your friend get involved with this person?

well when i spoke to him on monday this week he said he'd been crying because he missed her, and on Friday he said he hadn't been able to stop crying although he does seem to get emotional easily. and i dont know how involved they were because he wasn't single for most of the time he knew her.

Going through something similar... where did she go? There's nothing you can do really other than check he's okay. This sort of relationship will never work because of the distance - one of the down sides they don't tell you about going on exchanges to other universities. I let myself fall for an exchange student without thinking about the emotional consequences and it has been truly horrible.

thanks, i guess your right. she went back to america. and as i said he was in a relationship and then dating another girl (neither of them were the exchange student) so i didnt realise he liked her that much til now.
