whats the basic difference between anime and manga?

I suppose the most basic difference is that one you read, and the other you watch. A bit like the difference between a book and a TV series or film

I love both but I much prefer Anime. I like manga because it sticks to the storyline however nothing beats being able to see it animated.

Depends on the series! My favourite anime/manga is One Piece - I started out watching, but I found the story was going too slowly for me, it being action! I switched to manga about 2 arcs ago, and I very quickly caught up with the end of the series, as I could read a lot more quickly than watch. However, I still look on youtube for the animated versions of particularly good moments/fights, and I still look up the openings/endings when new ones come out.

Some series, e.g. Gurren Lagann, I only watch, yet some, e.g. Fullmetal Alchemist, I only read.

I think manga us better, it takes less time to read and the art is usually better by the original author

I watch a decent anime and think that was cool.

Then I read the manga and come away thinking "that was awesome".

    Without fail.

Manga just seem to have a much deeper storyline.

As a rule, I prefer manga because most of the time it is the original. I'm a perfectionist and I always get annoyed if the anime adaptation of a manga changes scenes, or adds stuff that doesn't need to be there. And filler. Ugh.
Also, a lot of anime adaptations finish before the manga has ended, and have their own endings. Like Ouran and Fruits Basket.
There are a few exceptions though. A few years ago I happily sat through every episode of Dragonball Z ever made. The thought of ploughing through the manga does not appeal to me at all...
Also, with anime that are based on light novels, I usually prefer the anime to the manga (such as Shakugan no Shana, Toradora...)

Manga for a multitude of reasons:

    - Faster
    - No filler/non-canon content
    - Being able to create the characters' respective voices and motion in your head, for me at least, makes it more enjoyable than just observing it in the anime.

Manga = easier to study for drawing, and also takes longer to read, so you can savour it.

But anime is also good. But not Naruto because it takes sooooo long to get anywhere. For that, I read the manga.

Naruto foreover! say saink you wateman. Naruto is the best anime in the frikin worl! PS: if you stupid enough not to realize, I voted for anime. Also, I have naruto ring. Even the bad ones (smoke, fight with other school etc. etc.) in my year watch Naruto. We even have a pack of Naruto rings which we wear (and I have Hidan's). Also, it's boring if a boy buys another pack of rings and wears the best one. We tell him to make his own group and enjoy what we share. If you don't know here's what the ring look like Attachment 161643
Omg I have an Akatsuki ring too! My sister got me the Konan one. But you prefer the anime to the manga? I find it a little....slow moving. (We get it, it's Itatchi....Uchiha, you don't need to keep telling us it's him!)

Anime for the soundtrack, but Manga for the storylines. Some 'Manga-to-Anime' Anime's seem to miss out the juicy bits and have ridiculous fillers (see: Bleach). Korean Webtoons are good as well and the art is AMAZING (see: Orange Marmalade). Based on humour (which is very important to me) I would say that Anime wins! Overall, I would say Anime and manga equally (as it is impossible to decide)!

Definitely manga but both have their strong points. I prefer manga nowadays cause I don't really have the time to sit down and watch a bunch of anime episodes, it's easier to read a couple of manga chapters now and then.

D.Gray-man anime ended early, Gantz ended early, Claymore ended early, Soul Eater ended early etc.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Langan was originally an anime and they started the manga afterwards I think? So it can work the other way sometimes. 666 Satan would make a great anime.

    Re: Anime vs Manga
I like both... Anime is better than manga because well obviously it moves.., the you can see the action or whatever, though the manga is better than the anime because it's easy to create which is why mangas are usually ahead of their animes (if they have one)...

What I do: watch the anime till the latest episode, then start reading the manga from the specific chapter (assuming the manga and anime follow the same story)

People have their preferences but there is nothing wrong with either...

I would like to also add a controversial view:
    Spoiler:
    Show
if effort is put into dubbing, then dub is just as good if not better than sub
People jump on the bandwagon just because they hear something that's not in Japanese... Watching dubbed anime does not make youre any less of an avid anime viewer than one who watches subbed anime... Gtfo if you disagree... Yes dub used to be crap, but now companies like funimation are putting effort in...look at cowboy bebop... These people are like those who jump on the Justin bieber sucks bandwagon (no I don't listen to his music)...not all subs are from 4kids where they censor crap...

I'm watching one piece in dub till the last episode, then switching to sub till I get to the last episode, then I'll switch to the manga...

It's not a "ogh but the voice actors suck" that's *******s, most people that say this are biased...I've watched one piece and the dub voices match their characters, the only fault I see is that they don't change the voice of chopper after he transforms but that's more for my preference given that he can change into a big beast
