Scared I'm going to fail
I've already failed my driving test once and my next one is on Friday. I'm really nervous that I'm gonna fail again and whenever I try to bring up the subject with my parents they always say "you better pass this time" and then end the conversation.
Last time I failed on a roundabout, pulling out whilst there was a car coming around. This time I feel more confident with my general driving but I'm under a LOT more pressure this time around from my parents. I can probably do 40 minutes of driving fine but I'm mostly worried about the maneuvers. I can do a three point turn usually (occasionally I'll fail by hitting the curb). Parallel parking I never really had a problem with. Left reverse I can't do to save my life I ALWAYS go too wide. And the bay park, well I never get into the bay.
They way I see it is I got maybe less than a 50% chance of passing and I need some tips on passing.
Sorry for the rant.

Re: Scared I'm going to failI'll try this! Thanks for the advice(Original post by steveha92)
Eat a few bananas before you do your test, i did this and just helped calm my nerves because it keeps your blood sugar stable. Passed with zero minors after failing before!
No need to worry about it! Good luck -

If it makes you feel any better at all.. I failed my test 6 times before passing on my 7th. My fails were not down to my lack of driving ability but down to my extreme anxiety! Examiners sense this and use reasons to fail you if they simply do not feel you are ready to be on the road. So I guess what I'm trying to say is do whatever you need to do to relax, and whatever the outcome you will definitely get there in the end!
I think your parents are being a bit harsh on you too, try not to let the pressure to pass get to you. Driving tests can be down to luck on the day! I used rescue remedy on the test I passed on and was quite relaxed beforehand (mainly because I was so resigned to failing
) and lo-and-behold, I actually passed!
I've been driving 3 years now, and no disasters (yet!).. If I can do it, you certainly can

Re: Scared I'm going to failI agree. I finally passed on my 4th test, and if i can pass my test, anyone can. Just relax, and take something to calm your nerves if you have to. Your parents may seem a bit harsh, but dont think about what they might think or say if you fail, just go for it.(Original post by starliight)

Re: Scared I'm going to fail
i've got my test coming up too!....(on the 29th) im sooooo worried!!!!.....im so hesitant at roundabouts... last lesson i had a great first half of my lesson and then got to a big roundabout and was ALL OVER THE PLACE....
does anybody have any tips?....i have a problem with the preperation, how early do you get into second gear?
and another thing....do you know when you change down a gear do you guys JOLT.....is that acceptable in a test?....my instructor said its ok, im just doubtful.... -
Re: Scared I'm going to failWith roundabouts, it's better to be hesitant than to pull out in front of someone through the fear of being too hesitant! Primarily, the examiner is looking for a safe driver, but at the same time, if you sat at a roundabout for 20 minutes without going it'd probably look as if you really were not ready to go on the road(Original post by praj1)

I guess the answer to that one is to choose a test on a quieter time of day vs the next available test. My most spectacular fail was a test I took at 8am
With gears, listen to your engine the best you can because it can depend entirely on the car. 1st gear is usually only to get you going, so as soon as you've hit 15/20 mph your engine is probably going to be screaming for you to change gear.
And don't worry about the jolting too much (I still do that sometimes even now!). Jolting is not going to fail you as long as you're not galloping along the road like a horse
Primarily, the examiner is looking for a safe, confident driver. Not a textbook perfect driver
Hope this helps! -

Re: Scared I'm going to failI found that if I angle my left wing mirror down a little, so I can see the curb then I can do it fine. Just go from looking in your mirror to looking behind (and look around every now and then). When you drift wide, then turn the wheel more and you will see the curb come back closer to you in the mirror, then when you get too close, turn the wheel the other way and you'll see it drift away.(Original post by postman pat)
Left reverse I can't do to save my life I ALWAYS go too wide.
I just used to guess until I remembered I had a mirror! -
Re: Scared I'm going to fail
ok....so 2 weeks untill my test now.....and my lesson today went awful!
stalled on my take off outside my house lol FML
on 2 occasions didnt look at my mirror enough when stopping.....(i looked to see if there was a car behind....but i dont think she saw me, and in all fairness i wasnt looking repeatedly...)
On a roundabout the lane had a really SHARP bend....therefore i wasn't fully in it....
OH YA AND A NUTTER WARBURTON LORRY DRIVER PULLED OUT INFRONT OF ME!!!??? i slammed the brakes, but i instructor did too (i suppose cos she wasnt fully sure i was doing it)....
so i make that 4 majors?....and god knows how many minors i wouldve had throughout that lesson!!!!! -
Re: Scared I'm going to fail
I found I wasn't that nervous before my test, which I think really helped. Just think (as hard as it is) that what will be will be, try not too worry as it will make it worse. Obviously you will right before, I got really flustered but the fact I wasn't in the weeks/days before helped. I had no idea how I had done the whole way round, there were some sticky moments where I felt like kicking myself for doing stupid things, but you can't help that.
As for the maneuvers, I got my worst one, bay park. I can honestly say though I NEVER did it as badly as on the test, but still passed god knows how. I only had 2 bay options and there was a wall at one side, so I couldn't go too close at that side obviously. Anyway I couldn't get straight., I went back so i was kind of diagonal, had to go forward but there was something in the way so couldn't straighten. Anyway this continued until the examiner told me to stop, IT WAS VERY VERY EMBARRASSING. Anyway I was JUST inside the lines, so I passed.
What I'm trying to say is don't give up, you will feel like an idiot if you make a mistake but don't dwell on it, move on and forget because it may not make you fail and if it doesn't then don't let it affect the rest of the drive. I thought I failed but didn't, yes I got a fair few minors but all the mistakes I felt had been major weren't, so stay focused and calm and you will get through it
-
Re: Scared I'm going to failI stalled about 5 times on the day of my test so I wouldn't worry. I found that the mistakes I made in the lessons prior to my test I didn't make because I was constantly thinking about them (instead I made other mistakes I never made in lessons). So I wouldn't worry too much.(Original post by praj1)

Re: Scared I'm going to failbut hang about too long and you'll still be penalised...(Original post by TheJ0ker)
If in doubt, hang about. It's a great motto for passing a driving test although I have failed twice now....
I hate it when you are sitting at a junction, and you've been sitting there for about 30 seconds but it seems like 5 minutes, so you go as soon as you see a gap that you think is big enough, but it turns out it's not so you cause the other driver to slow down
-
Re: Scared I'm going to failVery unlikely to get a major for waiting, you will only get one if you really take the piss and don't go in like 3 massive gaps. On my next test I am going to drive extremely slowly and carefully.(Original post by Runninground)
