Chocolate flavours
Chocolate is one of the most popular dessert ingredients in the world. Having said that I personally find plain chocolates quite boring and does not quite live up to its reputation. Ever since I picked up baking I have tried to experiment with different flavour combinations involving chocolates and my current favourites are chocolate-caramel and chocolate-earl grey, and to a lesser extent, chocolate-mixed spice. For some reason chocolate-orange just does not do the magic for me.
Have you got a secret chocolate flavour combination to you'd like to share?
P/S: I'm mainly on about milk/dark chocolates, as white chocolate has no cocoa solids so is pretty much like a blank canvas that can easily take on other flavours. -
Re: Chocolate flavoursI must try those!(Original post by marcusfox)
I've had salt flavour and chilli flavour chocolate amongst a number of others.
From the Lindt chocolate shop in York Designer Outlet. -

I must try those!
It's the Lindt Excellence range, and they have all the usual, like orange, strawberry, coffee etc, along with various % of cocoa dark chocolates. -
Re: Chocolate flavoursSounds good. I've heard of chili flavoured chocolate before but have never tried or made them myself. Will have to jot that down before i forget!(Original post by marcusfox)

Re: Chocolate flavoursHahaha, I meant them in a separate sense! Like a bag of crisps, eat one, then have a bite of chocolate. Sooo good.(Original post by Da CorrupteD KiD)
Where did you get those from??
Soorry for the confusion, the set up of the sentence wasn't structured all that well..! -
Re: Chocolate flavoursHaha! I thought they came ready-dipped in chocolate.(Original post by cfizzle)

I do see where you're coming from though, I do like to mix in a bit of sweetness with savoury crisps occasionally.

Re: Chocolate flavoursI think lavender, like rose, requires a very delicate balance of flavours. Too much and it will taste like soap.(Original post by PonchoKid)
iv tried lavender chocolate before
it was nice, but very odd, so i wasnt too keen
i am partial to mint chocolate and orange chocolate though.
Mint is nice but again too much just makes it taste like toothpaste. lol
On the other hand too little and it will just taste of chocolate... -
Re: Chocolate flavoursthis was actual lavander plants in my chocolate, so there was too much flavour at on time, not little chunks throughout.(Original post by Da CorrupteD KiD)

Funny you mentioned pain au chocolat because I am going to have a crack at making croissant pastry in the coming week, which is the same pastry used for pain au chocolat. Can't wait!

Re: Chocolate flavours
I've tried a few interesting chocolates from this shop in Edinburgh (my sister's friend works there
) - Earl Grey wasn't bad, there was quite a nice rose petal one, and sea salt was pretty good too.
I also once made a chocolate and chilli cake for a Mexican night - it had a hell of a lot of cayenne pepper in it, which gave it a pretty strong afterkick. -
Re: Chocolate flavours
I have had surprising success making cola flavoured chocolate.
Apple flavoured chocolate should totally be a thing, even if nobody will believe me when I tell them this.
There is a man in London who makes Marmite truffles, a flavour combination which for some perverse reason actually works (which I am sure somehow violates physics).
Lemon and ginger is wonderful with absolutely anything, including chocolate.
Rasberry and chocolate is currently very popular, as is mint and chocolate made with fresh mint.
I have a sneaking suspicion that tomato and chocolate will go happily together, though I haven't actually taken the time to try it out.Last edited by Bobifier; 13-06-2012 at 02:21.
I think it comes from middle/south America.
