Best skin routine
Throughout my late preteen, early teen years I suffered from mild acne, I've finally got it to the point (after many GP visits and a plethora of creams, lotions, gels, tablets etc) managed to control my acne, and at last my skin has pretty much cleared up!
Now I have no acne and don't need to use the products that treat my acne as so often, I want to get into a good skin routine to make sure my acne stays away and to keep my skin clean, healthy and whatnot.
(This is where you come in) I'd really like some advice on good skin routines, what I should involve, what products to use, how often I should do it etc etc.
+ just any tips to keep the skin clean and healthy.
ALSO, I do have quite oily skin, and a friend told my I shouldn't moisturize because my skin is so oily. Is this true?
MANY THANKS! -
Re: Best skin routine
No no no you get oily skin because your skin needs moisture so produces oil. Your best best is a oil-free moisturiser and apply it morning and night. You should also be cleansing morning and night, especially if you wear makeup and exfoliate every 2/3 days to remove any dead skin and unclog pores

Edit: Probably a bit much for a guy, still moisturise though! Especially with shaving and what not.Last edited by EatRainbows; 10-06-2012 at 18:01. -
Re: Best skin routine
I have found absolutely no difference between just rinsing my face with water in the shower, and when I followed a full cleanser/exfoliating/toner/moisturiser routine. So that was a bit of a waste of money. Although I do like St Ives apricot scrub, makes my face feel nice and soft (although visually still no different as far as I can tell haha).

Re: Best skin routineOP is a guy, do you wear makeup OP? But yes ER is right in saying you should be washing twice a day. And the moisturising is to do with most soaps and cleansers stripping the natural oils from your face, at least I think this is the case, not a dermatologist or soap salesman so I am unsure.(Original post by EatRainbows)
You should also be cleansing morning and night, especially if you wear makeup
But yes OP moisturise after the morning and evening wash. Everyone has different skin type to a certain extent so you just need to find what works for you. My skin is quite sensitive I think and I use an aloe vera moisturiser, vit c ones are pretty safe too I think but you'll have to read the reviews to see if there are any problems with a product.Last edited by SubAtomic; 10-06-2012 at 18:15. -

Re: Best skin routine
Best skincare regime I've ever used is:
Clinique Anti Blemish Solutions facial soap
then
Neutrogena Visibly Clear Oil free facial wash
and exfoliate a couple of times a week with Soap and Glory No Clogs Allowed!
Keeps spots at bay but doesn't dry it out
I used to think I shouldn't moisturise but so long as you don't use a really heavy one it won't make you break out -
Re: Best skin routine
3 words: Cleanse, Tone & Moisturise
Your best bet is probably to use a foaming cleanser (which should say for oily skin on the packaging), follow up with toner, (which removes excess oil and bacteria from your skin) and lastly moisturiser (as you have oily skin you'll want an oil-free one that is light and non greasy). Moisturiser is important even if you have oily skin.
Do all of this in the morning and evening every day and you should see an improvement in your skin tone and texture.
I've found it best to keep to a simple skincare routine, because if you buy too many products it will put you off following it.
You might also want to use a face scrub 2-3 times a week (St Ives Invigorating is by far the best I've tried), however if your skin starts to become less oily you might find 2-3 times a week too much.
Hope it helps!
