Re: Need help on buying a laptop - Budget is 200-300 poundsYou're not going to get anything remotely decent for this budget. What's the usage going to be?(Original post by firestar101)
Hi,
My sister is currently looking to buy a laptop. Her budget is 200-300 pounds.
Does anyone have any suggestions? -

The dm1's... okay. The processor isn't an i5 or anything, and it's the weakest aspect of the laptop imo, but it's pretty competent. For 'college use' anyway.

I got my non-refurbished one for £300, so I don't know why it's gone up to £350, but the refurbished one is in the link above. -
Re: Need help on buying a laptop - Budget is 200-300 poundsCan you bump it up to £350? That will get you a Sandybridge i3 machine which will absolutely fine for her. Anything less and the drop off in performance is very steep, as Vlad has mentioned.(Original post by firestar101)

Re: Need help on buying a laptop - Budget is 200-300 poundsThat's a pretty challenging budget. You're probably looking at a refurb for that sort of cash, and it will be the high end at that.(Original post by firestar101)

I would advise you try http://www.hotukdeals.com, they are usually pretty good at sniffing out the best offers.
Don't worry about getting the latest generation of processors - you probably won't use it. First gen. i3 is fine for basic internet and Word. I happen to be posting from an old Core2 Duo laptop of mine that it is still going strong after four years of service. -
