Have any girls gone from wearing a lot of make up to not very much?
I've worn a lot of make up, eyeliner in particular, since I was about 15. I wasn't very confident and a lot of the girls in my year started to wear lots of make up so I kinda got sucked in. However now I'm older it's generally known that guys don't like a lot of make up on girls so I want to cut it down a bit but still feel confident in myself!

Have any other girls gone through a stage of wearing a lot of make up and cut it down? I don't want to stop wearing make up altogether, just make it more 'natural'.

I didn't wear a ton but I used to wear quite a bit more. I used to refuse to leave the house without foundation, concealer, eyeliner and mascara just to pop to the shops. I guess I was going through an insecure phase then. NowI'll wear a tiny bit of concealer (I have insomnia so I tend to get dark cycles and bags under my eyes) and mascara if I can be bothered.
If I'm going out I'll wear a bit more.

I find it strange when guys say they don't like a lot of makeup on girls, when it makes them look better (when done well). But oh well, guys be strange.

I don't really attract guys much whether I wear it or not, and I have considered stopping, but have decided to carry on just because at least I like it for me

Yeah, I never used to leave the house without wearing a full face of make up (foundation, concealer if necessary, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, eyebrow pencil, powder, blush), and now I wear a natural eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and I still pencil in bits of my eyebrows because ones longer than the other!

I stopped using a base because my face was a whole lot paler than the rest of me because it never saw the light of day, and I was getting a lot of spots.

I've got to say, I still feel a whole lot more confident when I go out with the whole lot on. But it's nice now that I don't feel like I have to. I'm not scared to be seen by anyone if I don't have make-up on, whereas the thought of that used to terrify me!

It's worth doing imo. If you're anything like me, you'll be best cutting it down gradually. It sounds like coming of drugs haha, but in a way it's similar; you get so used to never being seen without it on that it's quite hard to just go 'cold turkey'

    Good luck!

I think that make-up should be worn with light, and bounciness to it. Natural - yes, mineral blusher, tinted eye shadow, thin eye liner, and natural colored lip balm = perfect. Not too much or to little, and does not cause nasty spots either.

Same as the other girls, really. Never used to leave the house without a heavy coverage foundation, concealer, bronzer, blusher, eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow, lip gloss and eyebrow pencil. But now if I'm just nicking to the shops or out somewhere casual, I'll just wear concealer, blusher, mascara and eyebrow pencil. I've ever started going out with nothing at all! Which feels awfully strange, I'll admit. But so good not having to "hide".

I didn't start wearing make-up until I was around 15 but my god, I caked it on. I was pretty insecure and so I thought that if I wore more make-up, I'd look better. In reality, I looked like a clown.

Now I just wear powder foundation and perhaps some blusher. It's nice to experiment with make-up but I absolutely cringe when I look at old photographs.

Definitely! I used to wear so so much make up. I look back now and think wtf.

I guess by some people's standards I still wear too much? But in general now I wear eyeliner, mascara, vaseline for lips and blush if Im looking a bit pasty...oh and concealer for spots

Before I used to wear 3 eyeshadows (blended), eyeliner, false eyelashes, a lot of foundation, lip liner, lipstick, bronzer, concealer, highlighter, lipstick and gloss. And would use a LOT of hair spray. Now I dont use it at all.

I feel a lot better for it Although I have to say, I still rarely go out completely fresh faced as I feel my eyes are kind of small without mascara!!

I used to wear a full face, I'd refuse to go out if I wasn't wearing it, foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, lipgloss, blusher and concealer, my hair was always either poker-straight or curled and I was having to wake up ridiculously early to get it on right for college and it was wrecking my skin. In February I finally listened to my boyfriend who'd been telling me for a year that I'm even more beautiful without it () and stopped wearing it - I've worn it on three occasions since, once when I went out with him on Valentine's day, when I went to a family party and for the unveiling of a plaque in April because I knew I'd be on TV/in papers for it so I wanted to look a bit dressed up I still straighten my hair most mornings to keep it out of my face but most days it ends up in a scruffy ponytail anyway so

I feel so much better for it, my skin looks great and I have such a confidence boost from not wearing it, plus I get a lie-in in the mornings

Just wear a bit less each time, people won't notice. I used to have a phase when I put the whole thing on but went on to only wearing eyeliner on my eyelids and lipstick ..I always need to have lipstick.

They like what make up makes you look like, they just don't like the fact you look totally different without it. That's why guys prefer girls not to wear so much make up to start with, so that the difference when you actually take it off at night and they get to see your natural self isn't quite as drastic. It's so they can see what they'll be working with on a daily basis... or so I've heard at least.

The max I've ever gone with make up is mascara and eye liner. And I've worn that stuff for the face when I was invited to the House of Lords, that's about it.

I don't understand why many women wear loads of make up to go anywhere (even to shops around the corner). I don't give a toss what people think about my acne scars. They're mine and if they don't like them or think I'm less attractive that's their problem.

I'm still a sexy beast

I used to wear a lot of mascara, false lashes etc. I stopped wearing so much eye makeup when I started wearing glasses because any mistakes I made with it looked really obvious & I kept getting stuff smudged on my lenses. I've gradually started wearing more again after trying out different tips/techniques for makeup with glasses.

I think I did the opposite, the older I've got the more I wear if I'm only going to visit family so going from the door to the car to the door I'll only wear eyeliner and a bit of mascara but if I'm going anywhere that involves an encounter with the general public I'll have my full face on.

A friend of mine decided she relied too much on make up and set about with the intention of becoming happier without make up than she does with it. Each week she cut down on one item of make up, giving herself a chance to get used to it. Recently she's been going out with no makeup on, or maybe just a dash of mascara - she said it was hard at times, but now when she puts her 'old face' on, she feels really uncomfortable and like a painted doll. Task completed and she's so much happier!

I used to wear quite heavy eyeliner and foundation for no other reason than that I was in my mid teens and still had a lot to learn about what did/didn't suit me! I think also that once you get into the habit of wearing a lot of make up it becomes a bit like a "comfort blanket" and you worry what people would think of your appearance if you went out one day wearing little or no make-up. From my experience people either don't notice at all, or just say "you look different" in more of a complimentary than a derogatory way! You don't have to wear minimal make up every day, just maybe for example if you're having a "good skin day" skip the foundation, or go for just a little concealer instead

I used to wear foundation every day from about the age of 14 but stopped in order to let my skin breathe a bit last year (aged 17). So now I don't really have anything on my face apart from clear/brown mascara and lip balm.

But if i'm going to a party or a special occasion I wear foundation, mascara, eye shadow, lipstick etc.

I got pretty bad acne from when I was quite young, so I started wearing thick foundation, lots of powder and eyeliner everyday from age 13 because I felt so self-conscious However, as my acne cleared up after treatments, I've been wearing less, although I spend more time on my skin now. I only wear some powder, eyeliner and vaseline (does that count as makeup?) now.

As long as a girl is good at applying it (and uses the right colours) then many guys don't actually realise how much make-up it takes just to create the 'natural' look.

I used to wear a lot around age 15-17 for two reasons:

    • I had really bad skin.
    • I went through a gothic phase (had everything except the black lippy ).

At the moment I wear a light bit of foundation (concealer if needed), mascara, black pencil eyeliner and usually a pink or red lipgloss for college/volunteering. Occasionally eye shadow if I particularly feel like it. I wear more for a day/night out. If I'm just popping into town by myself or with my Mum then I won't bother.

I generally tend to wear primer, foundation, mascara, concealer, lip balm and sometimes black eyeliner. There was a time when I was about 14-15 (I'm 18 now) where because when I got to Year 10 I was allowed to wear makeup to school, I went a bit crazy with it, wearing all sorts of stuff like pale pink and blue eyeshadow on top of each other, blue liquid eyeliner, blue mascara, lipstick, liquid eyeliner all round my eyes - I only put eyeliner on the bottom now. But I've stopped wearing OTT makeup for everyday situations since I left school, I think the only reason I did it was to counteract the bland appearance of my school uniform.
