Option 2a only has 2 years payback, so that wouldn't help to make a decision between the two. Agreed the figures are good for 2b, however Fontane don't have commercial experience, so you could say its higher risk.
hmm im kinda confused do you think porters generic strategies will come up?

Was never taught it. Considering my teacher is very thorough I can't see it coming up :/

What I think will come up:

A 2 marker on aims / mission statements etc to begin.
    Decision Trees.
    Critical Path maybe.
    The usual HR questions.
    Break even.
Work out the NPV, maybe a long marker.
Perhaps contingency planning they like to put in.
And the 20 marker will probably be the quant/qual info (and maybe Ansoff) on the overall decision of the 3 options.

See I wouldn't mind that. That for me would be my paper lol!! I can see breakeven too and a special order decision question after it!...What about marketing strategies?

Yeah hopefully break even comes up. Our teacher made us do a 15 marker on marketing strategies then we did a revision lesson the other week so I would feel fairly confident if it came up. But yeah I'd rather it was how I predicted it and marketing didn't come up

I think they going to ask something relates because she seems like a worried person i.e maybe ask about contingencies for workforce problems ...

so if anything unexpected happens at least rachel has a "plan b"

I don't particularly get the exchange rates ??Could you explain ?? please

Do u know what came up in the Jan 12 paper??
    I have the Jan 12 paper;

    1. Business aim, stakeholders (conflict), external stakeholders
    2. HR planning - formulas were provided
14 marker on differences in personnel effectiveness between two types of employees - based on figures
    3. Critical path (definition and advantages, no diagram). Profit and loss
    4. Decision tree (diagram) then a 2 marker for contingency planning.
    5. Define strategic decision, 8 marker on evaluating the effectiveness of Ansoff in relation to the business.
    6. Define / work out PB, define NPV
    7. Then the 20 marker on making the overall decision.

Not a bad paper to be honest, the only question I would have struggled on was the first 14 marker. But I guess that was more specific to that case study.

I don't particularly get the exchange rates ??Could you explain ?? please
Exchange rates are how much one currency is exchanged for another.

Fontane SELLS the product to 80% export markets such as Japan. If the exchange rate falls (i.e. the £ gets weaker) our goods become cheaper to those customers buying our product, therefore this is a benefit as our sales will increase. Likewise, if the exchange rate rises (i.e. the £ becomes stronger) then our goods are more expensive, meaning the price goes up for those buying the fountains, and demand will fall.

The same works for the raw materials, as they come from China. If the exchange rate rises and the £ is stronger, we can import more of the stainless steel for less, meaning our profit will increase as our production costs would fall. Again, if the exchange rate falls, it would cost us more to buy each unit of stainless steel from China, which will impact negatively as we are now spending a higher price for the same amount of raw materials.

    ^ hope that helps

Hmm Ok Mission statement/objectives is guna be question1 me thinks
I duno about labor to be honest with ya but all the better if it did.. right so defo decision tree long question then...its guna ask i think to define ARR and PB and give a disadvantage of each then to work out NPV and a long question on it.. then the 20 marker then marketing maybe contingency I duno and a bita breakeven

    Disadvantages of NPV
It is more Complex to calculate. it requires more time to make a decision as the discounted factor is an educated guess. it is also a quantitative method that may be a disadvantage to fontane ltd. Npv should be combined with ARR and payback to get the greatest outcome for the business. NPV states that early investments of high amounts are greater as they stand to loose less whereas high amounts later on decrease rapidly
