Are A level groups quite small?
Discussion for A-Level students and for those choosing their A-Level subjects.

It depends how many ppl want to do the particular course however, by law there can be no more than 30 pupils in a class.
In my AS psychology class there was 60 of us and it was split into two groups, now there's only like 35 of us but were still two groups xD

Re: Are A level groups quite small?
Depends on the subject, the year your in, the interests your peers have it is different for every year, every school and every subject.
My year had around 12 people in physics and then the year after us only had 4...
But in both years we both had 2 packed psychology classes around 20-30 in each class.
So it just depends. -
Re: Are A level groups quite small?
It really depends. There usually tends to be less, but it's not always the case.
You'll find that your class size slowly shrinks after the first set of January exams (When people get fails, when people give in afte rgetting crap grades etc) and in A2 for a not so popular subject the classes are smaller. -
Re: Are A level groups quite small?
Definitely smaller than GCSE for me. At GCSE there were usually around 30 in a class (with a few exceptions- there were only 11 of us in my science!) but at A-Level I usually have 10-15 people in each class.
It does depend on timetabling though- in my economics class there are 11 people, but in my friend's economics class there are only 6. -
Re: Are A level groups quite small?
If your studying sciences or maths class sizes tend to be fairly small with approx max 15 people at AS and even less at A2. For example my chemistry class had 12 people in AS and now there are only 5 of us left in the class. Other subjects like Psychology, Geography, Sociology e.t.c tend to have large class sizes.

For A2, there are 6 in my Music class, 8 in English Lit (Although there's another class of around 8), 9 in Theatre Studies and 10 in ICT (Again there is another class of about 10). Each of these dropped about 3 people from AS.

Re: Are A level groups quite small?
Wow, I guess at my school, we're all loners

So last year:
English lit- 11
Geography- 4
History- 8
THIS YEAR:
-English lit- 7
Geography- 2 (awkwarrrddd)
History- 3

But I guess it depends which school and subjects. Some are more popular than others. The sport science course for example here, has around 35 people. -
Re: Are A level groups quite small?
They're meant to be smaller than GCSE classes but obviously it depends on the space that the school has and how many people want to do the subject. Last year I had 20 people in my Spanish class (WAY too many, but they couldn't split it into 2 classes) and 24 in my Sociology class, which was the largest class in the Sixth Form. I know my school aims to have no more than 20 in a class but sometimes it's just not possible.
