So unless this is based on women who have sex only once per year (probably a pretty poor choice for a study on condoms) that would mean that the chance of getting pregnant due to having sex once is dramatically lower than 1%.(Original post by DorianGrayism)

and that is assuming they get their partner pregnant each time the condom does not work.
I don't get how you got the 65%.
The 65% is reached as follows: having sex twice a week is sex 104 times in the year. 0.99^104 is ~0.35 - this is the chance, if the condoms are 99% effective per time you have sex that you'll manage to get through the whole year without your partner getting pregnant.
Now, if this was actually the case, myself and most of the people I know would have expected to have got their partners pregnant/got pregnant at least once. -

Besides just because you can't imagine it, doesn't make it impossible.
Let's do the calculation, say a guy lost his virginity at 15 and slept with 3 girls every month. That'd be 18 different girls in 6 months or 36 girls every year. If he carried this on till he was 21 he would have been doing this for 6 years which would make him have slept with 216 girls overall. So next time you pull 3 girls in one month just beware that it's an amazing feat.

To be fair, over 200 at only 21 is very very impressive. I completely understand why most females would respect him less but surprised that so few men would respect him in comparison to those who would respect him less. If you were in his position, would you be happy with that much sex? I know I would be lol
