    AQA A2 Media Studies Exam (15/06/12) 15th June 2012
Is anyone else seriously worried about this exam?! It just seems so subjective and wide-ranging that it's so hard to know what to revise.

Would be helpful if we could share answers on case studies (I've done female teens and Facebook)

Section A is 2 moving images so at the moment i have just been watching a few adverts and looking at mise en scene, sound, and MIGRAIN (let me know if you haven't learnt that) that is all you can really revise for!
Oh and revising your theories and debates and context!!

Section B is probably a lot more simple as we have a choice of questions 2 representation and 2 New media.. personally and most of my teachers have said to choose representation because you have a lot more to write about.. You should have created a case study which you should ONLY REFER to in the exam.. i got told not to just sit there and write everything you know about your case study as they arent interested in that at all! They want you to answer the question!!

i hope this clears a few things up!!
and i was confused about what to do my case study on but i have chosen to look at documentaries specifically real life or 'scripted reality' such as The only way is Essex and Made In Chelsea!!

    xx

What on earth is MIGRAIN? :O

    Is it:
-Media Language (Mise en Scene, Sound, Editing and Cinematography)
    -Ideology
    -Genre
    -Representation
    -Audience
    -Institution
    -Narrative

Yeah thats the one!! its worth remembering and writing about when looking at the texts... and the theories i am revising is mainly uses and gratifications, hyperdermic syringe, versimilitude, hegemony, global village etc.. and debates are just the issues raised within the questions giving both sides of an argument.. then the context is when the text was produced, what was happening at the time.. my teachers say that the texts in section A are most likely to be recent stories eg. London Riots etc.. wouldnt put money on it but could happen!!

I've chosen to do the representations of New York City post 9/11. Although section A, I don't know how to revise!

    Good tips for section A.
By basing your answers around these, it's supposedly a good structure!
    Question 1: Refer to MIGRAIN
Question 2: " DIT - Debates, Issues and Theory.
Question 3: " SHEP - Social, Historical, Economical, Political context.

Any one know any good theories or debates?

For my section A I have theories like Marxism, Postmodernism, Tessa Perkins ideas on stereotypes, Desensitisation, Hyperdermic needle model, Carnivalesque, Cultural Hegemony, Male Gaze, Dyer's utopian pleasures!

Does anyone have any good examples for the 'refer to other media products' bit???

    Thanks

Me neither!! And I have no structure for the New Media as such, I just do a discussion of the question as an introduction and then relate my theories and examples to it and then a brief summary of my argument to conclude , trying to say something evocative so they think it was a good essay haha!
